I live in the USA. I know Currys is based in the UK. I was thinking of buying the 30D through them, but I dont see anywhere on the site if the product is NEW, Refurb. or used. Does anyone know about this?
Thanks for any responses.

They are like an english version of Best Buy, the people that work there are useless but they have large stores and sell a lot of tvs, dishwashers, fridges etc. and therefore prices are pretty good. Unless otherwise stated all products from there will be new, but they wont have a high turnover of (camera) stock like B & H or a dedicated camera shop. I would have throught after postage if would be far cheaper to get one from the states. I avoid the store because their staff are so clueless it frustrates me, but if you must buy from them, theres no reason not to.

Hi .....What you may want to do is to check their returns policies on returned items.....The last time I used their parent company Dixon's, I had a two weeks to take the Item back,as long as I did not open the box!!They didn't put to camera where I told them to put it.........Bryon

I have to ask why B & H is at least $246 cheaper. Currys are asking £899 (= $1666 at the interbank rate of $1.85/£1.00) in store (their website will only ship to a UK address) for the 30D with 18-55 lens. B & H list it on their website at $1399.95 + $20 shipping call it $1420 in round numbers. If you claim the VAT back you get the price down to $1417. Of course your credit card won't give you interbank rates and may also charge a fee on top.

So you want to save $3 at best, have the problem of getting it into the states without paying any duty and being stuck with a UK warranty if there is any problems with the camera.

I'm somewhat confused, please explain?

Ian

Why buy from the UK? The US always seems cheaper to us...and you havent got to pay import Duty

..for what its worth - Currys are just one of those "mega electrical stores" ...not a good camera retailer..

I can understand the logic in buying the camera in the US and bringing it here - because, like all the replies have said, it is ALOT cheaper in your country. but not vise verse

Is there any particular reason you want to buy it in the UK - for example, are you buying it as a gift for someone who lives here? In that case, curry's do have a pretty good deal on line at the moment (as i've mentioned before in the forum the CURRYS20300 code for a discount). Thats £875.25 which amounts to $1,621.99 excluding delivery

Other than that reason, I can't see why you'd want to buy it here.
