I have both Nikon Capture and Nikon View all latest versions, including Photoshop 7.01. I've searched this forum as well as tried to figure out how to extract or copy Exif information from one of my photographs but can't seem to figure it out. Could someone shed some light into this.

Thanks
John

Check these two programs:

http://www.exifer.friedemann.info/

http://www.irfanview.com/

They can both extract exif info from .jpg files.

You must use nikon transfer (with all the appropriate fields checked) for all the information to be transfered and viewable with irfanview including iso and lens information.

Hi John,

I am assuming you are able to view the EXIF info in Nikon View. If so, you can go to File-> IPTC Information... This will bring up a dialog with your exif information. You can highlight this information and Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste it wherever you want. I hope I got your question right..:)

Regards,
-Vinod

When you connect your camera or place your card in the card reader, a dialog box should list all the transfer options. Use Nikon transfer and go into the transfer rules and check all the appropriate boxes, this will relay all the pertinent information including iso and lens information to programs like PS and irfanview.

D70, 18-70mm kit lens.

Open Nikon View, than choose menu Tools / Launch Nikon Transfer

From the Nikon Transfer window, click the button containing the screwdriver and the tool on top right side.

On one of the tabs you have a checkbox with a test like "Copy shooting data to IPTC ...." (I can't recall excactly the text).
When you transfer now photos, IPTC caption field will contain something like:

Nikon D70
Focal Length: 50mm
Optimize Image: Normal
Color Mode: Mode Ia (sRGB)
Noise Reduction: OFF
2004/06/01 23:04:24.2
Exposure Mode: Aperture Priority
White Balance: Auto
Tone Comp: Auto
RAW (12-bit) Lossless
Metering Mode: Multi-Pattern
AF Mode: Manual
Hue Adjustment: 0°
Image Size: Large (3008 x 2000)
8 sec - F/5.6
Flash Sync Mode: Not Attached
Saturation: Normal
Exposure Comp.: 0 EV
Sharpening: Auto
Lens: 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5 G
Sensitivity: ISO 400
Image Comment:

I hope this helps

Breeze Browser 2.9 does a good job of extracting EXIF data and places it in a separate text file having the same name as the image and a .txt extension.

Thanks Guys

I appreciate the feedback. I made the adjustment within Nikon Capture Camera Control and now all EXIF info is available within the IPTC Information window.
