Ethics and Fatalities??

I was there when that accident occurred. Personally, i do not sell any photograph (sports or otherwise) of accidents scenes where the victim dies or was killed UNLESS the family gives me their personal approval to do so. I usually give the images to the victim's families when they are ready to see them.

I also give the images to the authorities so they can determine how to prevent such tragedies.

To me, it is in poor taste to print these types of images.

Photographing equestrian we photograph incidents from minor and mainly comical to serious injuries. Firstly we always keep taking the shots. A lot are purchased by the rider for the humour. What I wont do is release images for voyeurism. Has an example I have a couple of shots of well known people in embarrassing situations and some nasty accidents. The more nasty stuff has been used for insurance purposes and been requested by the medical team. I did an whole set which was used for training paramedics. My advantage is been self employed so its my decision. If I was on somebody else's dime it would change the situation.

The only time a human fatality was involved, was a traffic accident just in front of me where a policeman was killed. The cameras were in my car and I could easily get shots of everything post accident. I never picked the camera up.
