EOS Utility 3 problem in macOS Catalina

I use the EOS Utility 3 to transfer my images from the EOS R to my iMac (High Sierra) using a USB-cable.

I did a clean install of macOS Catalina on my MacBook Pro (mid 2014) and installed the most recent version of EOS Utility 3. When I connect my EOS R with a USB-cable to my MacBook Pro the EOS Utility starts up but does not make a connection with the EOS R.

The download link on the Canon website does not yet show macOS Catalina as OS so I used the most recent OS shown in the list (macOS Mojave).

Anyone experiencing the same problem?

It works in OS X 10.15.3 again!
Which still is in Beta. Aggravating that it gets broken. I just replaced ALL my gear due to theft, EOS utility will not work, but Sigma's utility for their lenses does.

10.15.3 thats a beta correct because I am not seeing that update available for public release.

I'm having the same problem. I shoot with a 77D and use a cable to transfer images and shoot tethered. But, after I recently decided to update my macbook to Catalina EOS Utility no longer detects my camera.

Hi everybody, I experience same issue with my new iMac working under Catalina. 5DMkIV is detected by EOS Utility 3 but after several seconds connection failed message.

On macOS System report / USB 3.1 Canon appears. Connections also not possible using Lightroom direct connect.

I also had the same problem with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2014), which does not recognize my Canon 5DsR for remote shooting, but works for download as a card reader via USB 3.0 Interface Cable using Lightroom Classic 9.1
Luckily I did not update my IMac (2014) which still continues using Mojave and working very well.
Let's see when Apple will fix this bug?

If you have 10.5.2 installed, the solution is to update it to the 10.15.3 "public beta".

If you're not in the beta program, here's a way that might work:
1. open terminal

2. copy the following and paste it into the terminal:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed && /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "clear dict" -c "add :SeedProgram string DeveloperSeed" "$3/Users/Shared/.SeedEnrollment.plist"
NOTE: you need to enter the quote marks and your password will be required.

3. Now open Software Update and see if it offers you the 10.15.3 public beta. If it does, download and install it.

REMEMBER:
It IS "a beta release" so there could be things that don't work right with it.
I would advise all who want to do this to first create A BOOTABLE CLONED BACKUP on an external drive using either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
Having a cloned backup makes it "child's play" to "get back" to 10.15.2 if you need to.

yes I am experience the same problem with my Canon 5DS Catalina and EOS utilities 11.03.1.

I'm seeing the same thing on Catalina 10.15.2 (Utility 2 and 3, Transfer Utility not starting up).

But I'm also getting a problem with DPP - it mostly works fine but then hangs and refuses to shut down upon trying to quit. Anyone seeing that?

Thanks.

I have checked with Canon support. The Catalina does not support EOS Utility correctly. Next version, 15.3, should be OK.

Gee, I posted the solution above. Guess nobody read it.

Upgrade to the 10.15.3 public beta, #2 is out now.

Yes I saw it. Still wanted to check with Canon. About the 15.3 Beta - perhaps I should try it, have you observed any inconsistencies otherwise?

I don't use Catalina (except for test purposes).
I installed the 10.15.3 beta2 on my external "test SSD" with Catalina, and it seemed to be fine, but I used it relatively little.
Then I disconnected it and put it away.
That's about all I do with Catalina.

Can confirm that Catalina 10.15.3 Beta (19D62e) fixes the connection error to the EOS 3 Utility. But seriously what an underwhelming program. Canon offers up a USB-C port on their EOS R and you cannot even record video directly to your iMac, MacBook Pro etc... via the app. Really love the EOS R and the BlackMagic Video Assist 7" 12G HDR for video with the ability to record to External Drives connected to the BM12G.

Anyhow, to answer your question the next update will resolve this. So you can wait for it or join the Developers Program to get the Beta of it.

I used Image Capture application to download the pictures from de camera as the utility doesnt work.
