I hope that someone might find this interesting or useful.
Today, I experimented a little with non-Canon inexpensive extenders stacked. My 100-400 mk II does not like the non-Canon extenders much. But, the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM seems to get along with them fine. It seems to me that the R5 makes the inexpensive lens perform much better than expected. I have only EF and EF-S lenses.

All of the attached photos were made hand held sitting in the same lawn chair. Raw development was done with Canon DPP. Shooting distances in the exif data may be wrong because the Vivitar extender does not modify the exif data. The Kenko 2x extender does modify the exif data, but gives me a black viewfinder and black live view screen when attached to the 100-400 lens.

Same stray cat cropped to illustrate loss of detail and noise. Eye detection auto-focused on this eye after I started the focus with the focus ring on the lens.

The last two are the same rose, but with the 100-400 and the Canon extender stacked with the Vivitar extender. When the Vivitar extender is attached to the 100-400, the image stabilization switch on the lens must be turned off or it bangs back and forth continuously. Auto focus selected the vetch seed pods instead of the rose.
