Em10ii jpeg output the same as original em5?

I'm looking at buying an em10ii used. I loved my old em5 particularly for the punchy JPEGs as I didn't have to Photoshop to get pleasing results. The ienhance was handy for sunsets too.

Anyway I have the opportunity to buy an em10ii. Should the output be pretty much identical?

I think the M-10 II JPEG quality is similar to the M-5 II. It should be better than the original M-5, but if I am wrong, someone will jump on me.

And just another question. The camera I'm looking at only has 1700 shutter count, but it has a 3rd party battery. Just seemed a bit odd. Seller bought it used herself.

The output logically should be a little better as it presumably has a slightly later sensor (there is a 3.5 year gap between their release) and definitely a later image processing chip, TruePic VII vs the older TruePic VI.

But, for getting results that you like then the best way is shoot raw files and process with a quality raw converter like DxO Photolab5 Elite. That can make any camera look better, as long as it has a good lens.

That 1700 shutter count you quoted is nice and low and having a third party battery is no problem at all. The original owner may have upgraded to a later Oly and decided to keep any OEM batteries. For batteries in Australia I have long used betterbatt.com.au and have had no problems.

I don't have an em5, but I have an em10 ii. I love it. I like the Olympus colours. As mentioned, the main difference would be the newer TruePic VII processor in the EM10 ii versus the older TruePic VI in the EM5. The newer processor improves image quality by correcting for lens CA in the jpeg output.

I don't use the i-enhance mode, but I found that the sunset scene mode on the EM10 ii does a nice job with sunsets.

As for the 3rd party battery, I have 2 3rd party batteries that I use with mine that I bought from Amazon. I don't notice much difference in performance from the original battery. They charge fine in the original Olympus charger too. I imagine the OEM battery lasts a bit longer, but if so, I haven't really noticed it. Having extra batteries is nice when out shooting for the day and the third party batteries sure cost a lot less than the originals.

Just now tested my E-M10 Mk2 and sure enough, both mechanical and electronic shutter operations get added to the "shutter count".

So even though my little used E-M10 Mk2 today shows 505 count I know that only about 10% or less of those would be mechanical as I keep it in electronic shutter mode for the rare moments I use it.

I think that count changed when they went to the new firmware that ditched the MySets and went to Custom Modes on the dial. Pen-F and then E-M1 Mk2 would be the first at my guess.

I actually just remembered something too. The thing that originally got me hooked on Olympus was a stylus tough waterproof camera about 10 years ago.

So it was only a small sensor/basic camera but still contained the type of colour signature I'm referring too.

you have more than one EM10 Mark 2? I was considering getting a second body to put another lens on-- is that why you have a second one too? Do you have more than 2?

I wonder who told them to get rid of MySets and cripple these cameras?

Yes mine may be like that now as I only use the electronic shutter and continuous high mode. do you think this is perfectly safe and even the continuous high mode with the electronic shutter wont cause any wear or shorten the camera's life?

guy you've only taken 510 shots with your camera?

Yup, had it about 3 years I guess and 510 shots, mostly electronic. I don't like it that much, results are OK but it's a clunky awkward thing compared to my neater E-P5.

E-PL5 A = 7,411 and E-PL5 B = 1,056 for a total of 8,467 they were quickly replaced by...

E-P5 A = 7,170 and E-P5 B = 9,896 for a total of 17,066

Now a lot are taken with my Sony RX100M6 thus easing the load on the Olys.

I never use burst or bracketing thus keeping the numbers low.

I have a series of EPL bodies , 5, 6, two 7’s, then EM bodies I prefer the 10 series for my shooting needs. Total body count is 10. They are rotated through 4 camera bags and various lenses which I set up for the day. Though they are not top tier cameras, they do what I want them to do, the same way when I did this for a living, I used Nikon FM series cameras instead of top tier F-3 bodies of the day. I found that an inventory of fast prime lenses served my purposes better, besides if I had need of special equipment for a job, I could borrow from a photographer friend or rent it.

I’ve almost pulled the trigger on the EM 5 II, and an EM 1 mk.II , but I find no need at this point, any advantages in either upgrade doesn’t provide a large enough benefit for my needs. You will notice that from my possible purchases I buy used. If the need arose for the “latest, greatest”, I would make the move, but I’m more concerned with the results, I look to achieve.

I guess I got the shutter count idea wrong. I had read that electronic doesn’t record somewhere, never checked it out because it never was a major concern. In any case it’s good that we have that matter corrected.
