Hi just bought a Kodak DX6490 off Ebay and received it two days ago.

I've been playing around with it and the camera so far seems to work fine, but there are times when the LCD screen goes to black and white. It happens intermittedly and doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason. Was wondering if this is something that normally happens or have I been sold a lemon. (Please don't berate me for buying off Ebay!)

It is normal, someone explained is here once already.

When the camera encounters low-light conditions under 8 lux, the electronic shutter fires more slowly. In turn, the displays shift from 27 fps color to 13 fps black-and-white to improve on-screen image quality and responsiveness with minimal noise, automatically returning to color when light levels rise. This allows you to see the preview clearly before capturing your image.

Thanks! I searched the FAQ yesterday, guess I was typing in the wrong keywords. That is a relief to know it is actually a feature!

This is actually a great feature,,,you can see the image omn the LCD screen so much better in low light,,,and there is absoluyely nothing wrong with buying it on E-bay,,,,I bought mine there and at least saved the taxes over full retail and still got full warranty,,,but buy off a trusted seller who sends full receipts and documents or the warranty may be invalid,,,,

Good to find out it has an extra feature,

Yes Ebay is a nice place to buy if you know the seller, or is a trusted retialer. You should also check out HSN.com for digital cameras. Of course they usually sell at the MSRP but you always know you will be getting your order saftely, and if you read their descritions (such as for the DX6490) you will notice that they include extras more than half of the time. The DX6490 comes with 128MB MMC memory card, and a camera bag! It may not be a specialize site but look under the electronics section some time. Also they don't have a great selection of cameras, only the ones that are being the highest bout for each level. They also have a neat feature for orders over 100 dollars where you can pay it off 1/4 of the price every month for 4 months WITHOUT intrest! I buy most all of my electronics there.

Why do manufacturers include user manuals???
