DoF & Focus - Question

I don't have a tripod (my birthday is coming up soon), but I always pay attention to the 1/focal_len rule when selecting my shutter speed.

You're comparing shots from the same lens, right? I assume you're not comparing one lens at 12ft with another at 6ft?

Your example above shows you're pushing the limit here. It's VERY easy to get handshake at 1/50s and 33mm. I don't think your shutter is fast enough here to be 100% sure of no handshake. Remember the 1/FL rule for the XT and other crop cameras is actually 1/(FL * 1.6) and that's only a guideline. For the average person it's a mimimum.
