Dilemma in the Post processing workflow (C1, LR, Dxo)

Would like to thank everyone for their inputs.
Once I receive the new camera, will install trial of C1 and LR, and try out the respective workflow.

Incase, I choose C1, will take a monthly subscription till the new version is launched, and move to perpetual license in Nov'23. Else, will choose LR+PS subscription.
That sounds like a good path to follow.
I agree. Ask a lot of questions, test and find what works best for tour needs.

Have you ever used the older Lightroom stand alone desktop versions? Example LR6. Today it is called LrC or Lightroom Classic. That is the desktop version. These days Lightroom or Lr which is the cloud version. It does not offer all the same editing tools as Lightroom Classic. Start with Lightroom Classic.

If you never used Lightroom Classic I have video for you.

Sounds very well thought through.

I know you have used LR before, so you should be good to go, but the one week evaluation period that Adobe offers really is absurd.

I recommend that you download Victoria Bampton's free getting started ebook from here before you start the trial, just to make sure that you don't lose time unecessarily.

That answers my question. Yes one week is pretty shabby. Adobe's popularity is not as bad as it used to be but this does not put a feather in the cap.

3. ON1 : I have previously tried ON1 RAW in 2022 and did not like much. Not sure, if anything has changed in the latest offering.
I have been dabbling in ON1 Photo RAW 2023.5 lately. It's surprisingly good with impressive AI masking, mask refinement tools, solid noise reduction that does not create a new file (but not best in class), and all the global and local adjustments you'd find elsewhere.

The interface is a bit disorganized which take a little while to get used to. And their approach to masking allow a mask to be created for every local adjustment and applied effect filter. That might be good, or bad. It does seem a bit laggy applying some effects and switching from Browse to Edit mode (I'm running a 32GB iMac Pro with the current macOS).

During their recent sale, I bought my perpetual license for $40. It's normally $100.

And they have a 30-day trial if you want to see how much has changed since 2022.

I agree. In addition, the newer version of C1 makes masking complicated parts of images much easier and user friendly. I have spent a great deal of time learning to use C1, I always upgrade to the latest version and will switch to subscription version in the fall, I do not want to to take the time to learn a different software unless is was substantially better than C1.

only thing i can see atm is that the older CO1 will not have the Camera Profile available for the newer body.

but since CO1 lets you write custom Camera Profiles, you can do so, and set this as a default when importing.

C1’s overall UI, its speed edit, and its High Dynamic Range options which allow subtle adjustments of Highlight, Shadow, White and Black are a pleasure to use compared with DxO.
Can PhotoLab's Tone Curve provide the fine control the Selective Tone controls do not?

..that will demand a lot of practice..
