i'd like to hear of the various ways you use your digital camera and how that has evolved from what you orginally intended to use the camera for. for example, lets say you bought the camera to use on vacation and now find you've made it a hobby of taking pictures of friends, at weekend events or for any reason at all. please reply with all stories and insights.

first thought i would take it around town and shoot iteresting things, but its never been more than a 100 feet from my home. i take alot of photos of bugs in my back yard, flowers, closeups of just about anything with alot of detail. photos of my dogs. i think the whole digital camera thing is cool.

My original purpose was to keep all photos catalogued on the computer, without having to scan them, instead of filling up shelves with albums. The second aim was to take advantage of photo-editing software in order to produce better pictures than those provided by commercial photo labs.

Both goals were achieved and the additional unexpected result is that now I take much more photos than I did in the past and spend a lot of time photoediting. The time spent in front of the computer is probably a negative aspect (since I already work all day long in front of a monitor), but the opportunity of taking thousands of pictures allows to improve your skills.

After using the camera for a while, I bought a second one for the office. We use it to record assembling-disassembling sequences of computers and other equipment, instead of taking notes and sketches, and to produce photos for our internal web pages, showing our staff how to take care of most common maintenance interventions, as replacing toner, properly pluging monitors' and keyboards' cables, etc.

Another unaspected advantage is that, instead of printing photos for friends and boring them with my albums, I publish the pictures on the WEB, password protected, and my friends can look at them if and when they like and download them for their own use.

I have been an amatuer photographer for many years using my trusty Olympus OM1n. I have also owned many 35mm compacts from Nikon, Olympus and Canon. I dabbled with digital by scanning prints to send to various relatives located around the world (Australia, USA, South Africa and New Zealand to name a few). I started out with a Fuji MX500 which took fantastic photos but was limited by having no optical zoom. Seeing that the quality of the printed output at 6x4 inch was at least as good as from a 35mm compact, I decided to purchase an Olympus C920 because of the 3 times zoom amongst other things. My Digital camera has replaced my 35mm compact on holidays and day trips etc. I still use my SLR kit for more serious projects, but I have started using the digital camera to take test shots so I can get an idea how things will come out with the SLR.

I want a digital SLR next but will need a large injection of cash before I can afford one.
