Denoising programs ...

The best noise reduction program is the one you take the time to master.

That said, I own Noiseware Professional, Nik Dfine, Noise Ninja and Topaz DeNoise but since I shoot RAW exclusively I tend to use the noise reduction module in Lightroom. For particularly stubborn cases I find myself using Noiseware Professional the most often.
Hey, looking for the best denoising program, lets say upto 100 bucks. Any suggestion?

Many of the software providers (of denoising programs) offer free trials usually up to 30 days. Download a few and give them a try on a particularly difficult shot. Then you can decide which not only does the best job, but is easy to learn and use. I have had a number of programs and am now using Topaz Denoise almost exclusively.

Ya, you are right about the trial version. But I'm looking for the best denoising program, you know. I tried NeatImage, NoiseNinja, NoiseWare and RawTherapy, but I seriously doubt these are the etalons of denoising programs. Looking for the best one to compare it with my experimental results ...

If you do feel that the programs mentioned and you say you've tried .. just don't match what you call your own experiments.. then I'd say that so far as Noiseware Pro is concened... you just haven't figured out the right equivalent slider settings to suit YOU.

Noiseware (and I've tried pretty well all others) is what I've found the most adaptable.. settings galore to do it how YOU want to..and keep them easily if you find what is best in general.

These programs really are all about individual tastes. Depends on what you get out of camera....THEN very much what suits YOU as a final pic.

A recent comment by Thom Hogan in an article on workflow is appropriate:

"As the software companies keep leapfrogging each other in critical areas, the mix of what I use tends to change. I started with Neat Image as a noise removal tool (and it's still quite good and better than the built-in Adobe tools), but today I'm using Denoise. Tomorrow? Who knows? Best solution today wins."

I use Neatimage Pro.

Comes in stand-alone versions and photoshop plug-in versions.

No offense/no flameware, peace :-)

But I got an idea. Lets announce "denoising cup". I got two images:

one of them is artificial created just for my tests. The second one is common photo. So use your favorite program to get the best results, ok?

The original image of Noise_target_02 is:

lets the battle begin :-)

Hey Filip,

This was processed with the "JPEG - Moderate" preset in Topaz Denoise 4...it takes only a minute or so to process. From this point, you can adjust it further using custom sliders to achieve the exact amount of noise reduction and detail enhancement you desire. Hope this helps in your search for the right noise reduction software. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you very much, but at first sight its oversmoothed. There left no details, but its probably caused by the setting or by lower resolution of the image. Anyway thank you, have never seen a result from Topaz DeNoise before.

Yes, I agree...but if you're going to have Topaz Denoise on your CS.. (and indeed any Topaz are excellent to have)... but you really must have such as Focus Magic.. gosh, I've treasured that one for years.. not sure exactly why but I just think it is a better all-round Sharpener than any other. It SEEMS simple but the way it works is so nice.

I always hate doing anything with a pic already processed , as you just cannot do as your own full edits.. but this is what FM would do - or at least a sort of example. and a sample of the way ahead from the Denoising

Frankly, as a G6 shot it's not of course a dSLR shot anyway.. and personally I'd also have liked to put this through PhotoZoom at one stage - to downsize with that. THAT is also a wonderful program to both downsize AND give you an initially cleaner, slightly sharpened pic before you even do anything more.

FocusMagic is nice, I agree, but I like DeblurMyImage better, if you know it ... I should probably try Topaz apps ;-)

Flip -

I'm always open to suggestions and would have liked to try that prog - but getting it via Google seems to indicate that it is a freestanding.. not a Plug-in for PS/CS...is that so ??

...I used Topaz DeNoise 4 low settings on these pic's.

I mostly need a denoise program for digitizing old slides and negatives (rarely on DSLR shots) and I've used Neat Image, Focus Magic and Topaz DeNoise and my personal preference is the Topaz program. Sometimes when the old source is really bad and I've used Topaz I also have to resort to a duplicate layer that I use Guassian Blur on and then paint back the subject with a soft edged brush on a layer mask.
