d30 LCD question

I've noticed that the LCD review display on my new D30 seems to suffer from what I can only best describe as color "convergence" problems. ie. the RGB components don't line up well, causing the text to look out of focus. For example, the vertical portion of the number "1" appears more red than white. I at first thought that this was just a shortcoming of the LCD display that Canon chose to use but I noticed that the pictured displays in online D30 reviews look very clear and the white text is color free. I checked out another D30 at a local camera store and it is much clearer than mine.

Anyone else notice something like this with their D30? Doesn't cause a problem with recorded image quality but doesn't seem quite right.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had an LCD that had other problems and there have been posts that LCD problems are not that uncommon. I was able to return mine for a replacement because of LCD problems and you should be able to as well. Alternatively you can send to canon for warranty repair. mark

I have only handled two D30s, and both showed this problem to some extent...mostly in the form of red fringes around white text. My recollection is that the first D30 I tried had this problem to a slightly greater extent than my current camera, but I don't have them side-by-side to compare. It sounds like it's not an uncommon phenomenon though.

Hello Paul,

An encouraging post. Thanks! I've decided to try to "chill" on the issue and enjoy the camera. It otherwise works beautifully. I have the warranty with a 1 year extension (came with the "executive pack") and if it ever becomes a real issue, I can pursue it then. I come from a Coolpix background for the past 4 years (900, 950, 990, sent the 995 back after 2 days) which has a beautiful LCD display; very sharp and bright. But the Coolpix images are no match for those from the D30!

Thanks again!
Brent

one of the forum members (Guv'nor) kindly posted a photo of the lcd of 2 of his D30's, the image is no longer on his site but I downloaded it at the time, here you go, the one on the left is the ok one, the one on the right isnt. I used to own a 990, and would say that the D30 lcds arent as good as the 990 for text, my D30 is about the same as the left image, I think thats as good as they get!
