D200 users: Upgrade to a D200x/D300 if . . .

1. Higher frame rate?
5 fps is sufficient for me
Irrelevant to me. The 10mp files are already getting too big for my liking.
3. Better ISO performance by 1 stop
Not enough
4. Better ISO performance by 1.5-2 stops
Now I'm starting to get interested.
5. Something else?
Auto dust removal, D40 quality jpegs out of camera.

...If Custom Setting e5 (Auto BKT Set) is set AE Only or to AE & Flash and On is selected for Custom Setting b1 (ISO Auto), the camera will vary ISO sensitivity without varying shutter speed or aperture, regardless of the setting chosen for Custom Setting e6...
....
Bracketing: I also want to be able to bracket based on ISO, leaving
aperture and shutter speed locked. ...

Exactly! More cross-types are what i really want.

I need a 2nd body so I'll buy it whatever it is. But if it comes with CAM2000, I'll probably sell my 1st one and have two of these.

I would upgrde for:
  • 2-3 stop better high ISO performance
  • 2-3 stops better dynamic range
  • guaranteed-no-more-dust-on-sensor feature, no matter how they solve this...

1. Higher DR
2. Better ISO Performance
3. Better Battery Life.
4. Better Autofocus system (Cam 2000)

Then i will upgrade my D200.

I would buy the next one in a heartbeat if it had greatly improved AF. In fact, I would even buy it if it still used the same sensor.

1. Higher frame rate?
Nice to have but not necessary.
Nice to have but not necessary.
3. Better ISO performance by 1 stop
No. Not necessary.
4. Better ISO performance by 1.5-2 stops
No. Not necessary.
5. Something else?
DX is a must. No FF downgrade.

High Speed crop like the D2X has.

Very cool - you learn something every day. Thank you for taking the time to highlight this functionality, I seriously thought I knew every function on the camera, this is real gem.

However, unfortunately it doesn't work in bulb which is exactly the only setting had in mind for using bracketed ISO functionality - how about that for bad luck.

ok it does not pop up that often but the line banding thing that's happens in bright lights know as type 2 banding I think.

It is 1 in 200 for me, a pain as its always the one I want. My d200 went back 4 times last year they never got it quite right.

My d80 does not do it, but its not quick enough for most of my work. 12mp would be good as well.

thats it theres nothing else wrong with it.

cheers

if you don't understand I'm sorry I'm dyslexic

nikon d80, d200, sb800 3, su 800, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 12-24

I have a d50 and would only upgrade if ISO performance is improved by about one stop (for real, not lower noise due to more noise reduction, I want the fine detail intact). Nikon may have better features and ergonomics, but they are lagging behind in ISO performance. Due to the relatively poor ISO performance of the current Sony 10 MP CCD, I would not be surprised if the rumored Sony 12 MP CMOS sensor had slightly better ISO performance. However, I doubt it will be one full stop better. I would also like to have more DR.

Regards Mats

Smaller (it fits in my pocket), stronger (if I need a hammer), lighter (100g), faster (25pps), Cheaper (60€), hight resolution (6*6=36Mp), good ISO 6~25600 capable, 8Tb internal memory ...
Lets Nikon and Nikkor develop what they know to make and if you need it, buy it.
Regards.
