It's only a small item and easily added. On my CP950 there is the ability to set up 3 user selectable global settings. With this feature you can set up sharpening, WB etc. 3 different ways and they are saved as 1, 2 and 3. Within the menu you can switch between the three with one click and your set up for 3 completely different shooting situations. I like to post process my "art" work so minimum in camera sharpening etc. Setting #1. Snaphots Setting #2 minimal post processing ready for email or print out and Setting #3 somewhere in between. Why wasn't this included as it already exists and the adjustment choices are far more on the D100 than the CP995. I'd like a one click shift between modes. maybe in a frimware upgrade.

To my knowledge, the N70 was the only Nikon SLR body to ever have a feature like that. And Nikon took such flack over the interface design, they seemed to have abandoned the baby with the bath water. (Before any N70 owners pipe in and say they loved the camera--yes, I know that. The N70 provoked a very polar response, but what Nikon heard was "don't do that again.").

It has this functionality, called 'bank select' on the shooting menu. It remembers all the setting in the shooting menu (Image quality, resolution, white bal, ISO, Image Sharpening, Tone compesition, colour mode and hue adjustment).

It only saves 2 sets though.

Page 135 in the manual, is this what you are looking for?

Almost forgot, it also has this for all the custom settings (2 banks to save settings in) which is different from the shooting banks. Page 146.

PS. Thanks for making me look this up, I missed this one the first time round.

What I am refering to is a software menu option. On the CP995, you go into the menu select User Choice(?not in front of me) and select #1, #2 or #3. To set up these choices the first time, in selecting 1 there is a complete list of operator selectable items and you trun on and off everyitem in the list as you see fit. After that when you select 1 it changes everthing to these settings. #2 same thing. There is no external switch involved but is one extra main menu selection. With this, after making your choices the first time, one quick trip to the menu and you have changed as many items to your preferences as you would like. How many variables are in the camera 30 or so? Remember this is digital and to manually change your setup even if only 3 or 4 items can take a little time. If you use these setings often why not have the ability to save them.

Thanks Louis.

I didn't get that far yet. I have been reading the manual page by page as time allows and I'm not to page 146 yet.
Enjoy your camera.

Hi Tom

Isn't that what the "banks" do. In other words instead of going through all the custom settings, you set up your banks for two different situations. You then only have to access the setting for selecting between banks. On the D1x there are four banks to choose from.
