Custom WB - Help!

http://www.pictureflow.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=2104#post2104

I just did the test:

1) Shoot Grey card, set CWB.
2) Shoot 3 images with AWB indoor!
3) Went to outsight repeat step 1.
4) Shoot 3 images with AWB outdoor!
5) Process images in YP with CWB!
6) Excellent result!!!

That workflow excellent for me, because it allow fixit mistake later!!!!
And if I do not have time for CWB the AWB usually give me workable image!

I'm not good at English, so you may have some trouble in reading...Sorry!

Hi Thomas!
The way I read your work flow: each image will have to be attended
to individually?
Yep, depending on the lighting/shooting situation this might be needed ... maybe even custom WB by picking a white point with the pipette ... a point of the thumbnail that comes close to 18% gray seems to work best.

The flaw I've found with the "pipette" method is, the white you choose will be influenced by the light source, 240, 202, 153 and there by create clipping and a color shift as the pipette raise the contrast of the image. On the other hand, the best black in the image may consist of 9, 9, 9 and then you'll introduce clipping further on the black end.

Nope, back to the grey card or Expo/Disk for me.

The readings I gave were straight off a sunset lite subject.

All white were under reported and the adobe white gave the best white reading. White taken off the wall of the peak and the black came from the pine tree shadow next to the roof line, middle.

Suggestions on work arounds? In the case of the sample I posted, I'm only using it only as an example as I want the color shift of the setting Sun to be a part of the image's emotional content and do not want any color shifts.
