*** CTF Mini Challenge #119 - One second + ***

I've not done any long-exposure shots, and didn't think I could do any with my S400. But I opened my manual and to my surprise found "Shooting in Long Shutter Mode" on p. 71. Thanks to Ana for pointing me to a new photographing skill!

First, a self portrait at dusk, exposed for 6 seconds, handheld tight against the wall:

Second, out front with my tripod to take my backlit big locust trees and a passing car (10 seconds).

Finally, I turned around for a 15 second shot of my front door:

For comparison, see this with a gloomy day shot of the same scene:

I love the second shot, Max! The light in the trees and the contrasting color of the car lights is very effective. I also enjoyed your day for night rollover, very fun! Sharon

Night Fishing

Sharon -

I think I would prefer this one with just the center - just the still, overdressed woman watching the shadow of her motionless fisherman. The ends, with their moving, complicated people, distract me. Of course, this assumes that you have enough pixels so that you could enlarge the center considerably.

you have very good pictures in your album, I liked them very much!!:)
could you please tell me what camera did you use for these pics?

Thanks for your input, Max! That is a very interesting idea, I will try the crop next time I have a few minutes. I do think the image needs the lifeguard stand to give it a sense of place but I could try cropping the right hand people out. I am looking forward to going back to the beach again sometime and trying this technique out on some different scenarios and I will see if I can get a fisherman and his wife alone. Thanks! Sharon

Bloody oath Scott, I am always serious.

LOL

Nah, sorry mate.

The bright one in the middle is the moon. I think the one next to the moon is venus, but I really don't know much about astronomy. So you could be right mate?

Hi all,

I'm back from the beach, with a nasty cold, unfortunately. I'm going to comment on the photos that were submitted while I was away, and in the mean time, there are still 10 hours left to enter your long exposure pictures! Choosing the winner will be tough.
