Just for the fun of it, here is the setup:



I needed a good DOF, so I used f25, and wound up with a 30 second exposure. The flash was the only light on the subject, however. That was because I covered the lens with a black cloth, to keep out all other light, as soon as the flash fired, and until the shutter closed.

Excellent idea for a long exposure shot. I'd prefer a watch without the second dial in it though. This one makes the composition too crowded.

painting with light (49s @ f/32)

Another great example. I love the effect that the painting with light does to the scuplture. I'm not so sure about the streak of light in the background though.

need for speed (1s @ f/22)

A classic. You made this shot a very good one by driving behind another car at the same speed thus keeping that car in focus while the surroundings fly by in a blur. Very nice!

I remember seeing this one before. It's an exceptional photo. You managed to capture the light streak in a way to form a curve, one of the most powerful compositional elements.

With this one, I'd have chosen a bit different stand point. IMO, the composition here is too central, which is not a bad thing in itself, but I think the photo would benefit from another angle. I love water shots, though, and this one is very nice to look at.

maybe I'll replace that favourite one (3rd one below) with another
if it's too similar. anyhow it was already honoured in a previous
mini-challenge last fall, so perhaps it shouldn't be eligible
again? if not, I have an idea for a new shot I'd like to try...

If you ask me, any shot is eligible, even if it was entered in one of the previous challenges.

1. "Tomorrowland" - with the Astro Orbiter in motion behind - 1sec
f/3.2, Canon G2, Disneyland, California

Nice shot, full of color. The letters may be a bit too bright, but I do know how difficult it is to overcome contrast in such pictures.

2. "Dandelion Seed of Light" - 2sec f/10 - zoomed during exposure,
Canon 20D, HSBC Celebration of Light, Vancouver, BC

Very imaginative! Zooming during exposure can create such wonderful results. I like the combination od white and red forms and colors. And the title of the photo fits very well.

3. "BiTurbo Blur" - 2sec f/8.0, Canon G2

This is a great photo. Don't tell me it was taken handheld?? I really like the streaks of light showing the motion and the dashboard, which is in focus. The rear mirror adds to the composition too.

Atlantic City Beach at Night:

This is a great photo! You should have entered it in the previous challenge. I just love this kind of fence - it can be a very photogenic object. It's not common here in Slovenia.

I don't know how much space you had, but standing a bit to the left would yield a stronger composition with the path forming a diagonal, and you would get rid of the distracting house in the upper left corner. And that thingie in the lower right corner. )

Winter Scene at Night:

A very serene mood. I like the warm colors, which are not so typical of a winter scene.

Jack O Lanterns & Ghost:

Wow, are those real pumpkins? If they are, somebody was very creative carving them!

I'll invite you for half a minute to my office:

A very challenging scene, no doubt. I do find the light from the monitor a bit too bright though and distracting to the otherwise dark surroundings. Maybe this is a good opportunity to try out the HDR technique.
