* * * CTF Challenge 185 - Found Triangles * * *

I'm not sure what "august scientfic bods" are... but in any event,
my image was aired!!! How kewl is that!
That's very kewl & a big well done as you may have discovered a new cloud formation. They should call the clouds "Strong Janos"

August scientific bods are scientists that are held in high esteem by the establishment & know lot's & lot's about wot they're talking about......... A bit like I'm an august photographic bod, amongst other names I'm called:-)

Totally agree with that Debi thing. Do you think she works in the telex room :) Remember those?

Pic No.1: I thought the eyes of the horse were enough in-focus. Not totally in focus, but adequately so. In my biased opinion, of course :)

Pic No.2: Thanks

It's all about light, my friend.

I sort of looked at the horse, grandstand, the jump & the girl (not necessarily in that order):-) And I didn't notice the horses head is sharper than the rest. If I was taking that shot I would have everything blurred except for the luvely girl. .....Next time Aamm you know wot to do:-)

Thanks Techo for bumping the file size.

Now, why not make this challenge wide open and be camera neutral. Its a bit selfish as I switched to Nikon, but we will attract a wider audience (I think).

Thanks for the quick reminder, Aam.

Yes it is now 200 kilobytes (204,800 bytes). I'll update the rules
and add a note in the new challenge gallery.

... if Nikons were allowed in eligible but I'm afraid this is a Canon challenge.

Wot's a Nikon:-)

I don't mind an open camera challenge but some might say that Exhibition is for any camera. The funny thing is this is really on the P&S forum sort of & we have a DSLR challenge over there somewhere, yet we must be nearly all DSLR users here.

The only problem with opening up the challenge is going through the long process of getting rid of the frame & sig brigade a:-)

I don't know if the rules are set in stone a. I would like to see other camera owners here as long as they can take the heat like us manly men.
Regards Rod

Rod, totally agree. Pbase doesn't restrict by camera model... its just that we host the discussion here under Canon thread.

I just swung by the local pro shop and got one of those new little Canon Speedlites that just hit the market (270EX). It's cool! It won't take the place of my 580EX bad boy, but it's just what I have wanted for a lightweight always in my bag get me by flash. It's tiny and light using just two AA batteries to throw out a decent amount of light. It fits in the palm of a hand and even tilts up in increments to do a bounce. It's so light it doesn't even make my G9 seem unbalanced and it looks pretty slick on that camera too. It looks like a pop-up flash on steroids mounted on my 5D but is much more powerful and adjustable than a built-in.

All the controls are done through the camera menu which I think is fine to keep the unit small. Supposedly Canon came up with some new tech for this one that makes it go through many cycles on just two batteries. I don't know why they didn't come up with something like it earlier. The few test I did with both cameras look great. I give it a thumbs up.

Since we are in the mood of change (starting with file size)... how about the concept of handicap (a la golf) based on ones previous wins/placement to level the playing field and encourage new comers. Just a thought... what do you think..

When it was introduced I thought it looked pretty good especially with the tilt head. I'm glad you bought that flash so my 430 looks manly now:-)

It is really good to have some lightweight gear to lug as we only use the flash occasionally & it will have enough power for general stuff a.
Regards Rod

The price of 70-200 f2.8 IS went up by $100 yesterday. While checking Amazon it showed Calumet have it at the original price, so I grabbed one :)

Also ordered Scot Kelby's LR book.

Well your 430 would look manly if I was using it anyway :-)

Yep, the very best gear isn't going to do you any good when you leave it home due to weight considerations. I seldom use a flash, but this one will always be handy to get me by in a pinch. I'm going to fashion some sort of bounce card from foam sheeting or a plastic container too- should add further versatility.

Pretty sneaky offering a rebate and then raising the price. Glad you found it at a good price and enjoy it when you get it Aam. I held one of those lenses once- very substantial and manly. I went with the f4 of that lens because I like to keep weight down, but weight aside I'm sure the extra stop will come in handy at some point. I guess your center point AF will work better too with a 2.8.
Also ordered Scot Kelby's LR book.
I should probably get that book too. Of course I never get around to reading my photography books, but somehow I must benefit sleeping with them on my bedside stand- proximity to knowledge I guess ;-)
