*** CSLR Challenge 60 Voting Thread ***

...if so, GOOD! There's been some great commentary regarding "the note" and I'm amazed at the many sensitive comments posted. I am also impressed by the patience so many of you have shown.

I'll admit that I have not done much photography and know very little about the operation of the camera, but I just hang in there and try to learn as much as I can from the rest of you. Because of your votes, I have placed many times with images I LIKE and try to be true to myself by not conforming to the style of others or to give in to self pity by lack of votes or hits on my images. Is there a clique? I haven't noticed, but I have seen much admiration for images and I feel they deserve high marks, even tho' they may not suit my own photographic tastes. I've come to like and admire many of you and I think it's only natural to want to support (and vote) for a photographer because you like him......but since I am aware of these feelings, I vote for images that I think are the most artful and show technical expertise.

If there's one thing we should appreciate regarding all of this is that we have the freedom to express our opinions (likes and dislikes)...and for that we must be grateful.

So I'll chime in - I've not been available here or for voting.

So, someone is disputing my win in 57? LMAO! I'm not going to be shy about tooting my horn on that one... it was probably about the best pic I've ever taken! It was inspired. It was wonderful and I am so dang proud of it. The amount of compliments I got on that was overwhelming. In addition to the challenge win, it also won a ribbon at my camera club. If that is not enough evidence of the quality of that image, it also made it into the Flickr Interestingness gallery and has to date, at Flickr, received 699 views, 67 people count this as a favorite, and it has garnered 50 comments. Not to mention, my father-in-law, who hates all my pix of my kids, absolutely raved over it! ;)

So, I personally find it impossible to believe it wasn't an image that deserved its win. So, to whatever silly person who has some beef with something, whomever it is, whatever it is, there's no need to take it out on my image. If YOU didn't like it, that's cool with me. I wouldn't expect everyone to like it, but there is no denying that a huge amount of people do. It completely jumpstarted my Flickr account and got me added into a load of peoples' contact lists. For me the image is magical. For you it's not your taste. Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all loved the same things.

And Trav, I didn't go all ape-poop over reading this. LOL! It doesn't bother me in the least if anyone didn't like it. I just think it can't be classifed as an image that lacks quality, just one that doesnt' appeal to all tastes. And, I deeply appreciate your support. Thank you my friend. :)

LOnnit
....It's not like Lonnit is a wilting lily or anything, she says
what she wants...lol...and then some, (grin).

But even putting Challenge 57 up to dispute...really has got to fry
her gonads. Gads, I don't want to be near Lonnit when she reads
these posts...lol

I went back and checked Challenge 57. I voted for four of the top
five and Lonnit certainly did deserve to win, (though I still have
a compelling fondness for Michael Puff's Breakfast of Champions).

But even with my fondness for Breakfast...Lonnit still deserved to
win.

Life is crazy...that's the only thing I know for sure...lol

Best Wishes,

Traveller

and offer your comments. Tell me what you like and what you don't, and why. I welcome all opinions. :)

and with her level of exasperation.

I was gone all day and I came back to find all this lovely chaos going on. I don't think I need to make any comments here as you have all done a great job expressing just what I would want to say. And Jim has done exemplary service as host for the unexpected chaos he got along with his excellent theme. I don't think we need to defend ourselves to someone who has made up his mind, I am just sorry that we won't be seeing any more of his excellent images. This is a wonderful community of intelligent, talented, friendly and helpful people that Rob has just thrown himself out of. Too bad for him. Lets get on with it my friends, this photography stuff is too much fun to let one unhappy person disturb us for very long. Sharon

For whatever reason, I guess I prefer that this amazing image is just a perfectly timed capture of a very chaotic system at work.

The fact that you've managed to capture the one instant in time when that flame made such an amazing form is pleasing to me.

The more I look at it, the more I think it looks like a lovely woman in a dress kind of like what Morticia Adams might wear. It's a very shapely flame.

I suppose it's a Rorschach Test for us all.

I haven't participated in these challenges for a long time. Partly it's because I've been up to other things, but to some degree it's also because I wasn't getting enough feedback on my images to make it enough of a learning experience.

Was this because there is a clique? While there is a bit of a clique here, I don't think that was the biggest factor. The main reason is I generally submitted my images quite late. The images that go up early get the most feedback and garner the most attention. Those that go in late pretty much get ignored, both from a feedback and a voting perspective.

There was always a certain group of regulars who got their submissions in early (I presume they have a fair amount of time to dedicate to this) and so stimulated a lot of group discussion and interest. From a distance that made it look like a clique.

(Of course the obvious answer was to submit quicker, but that's not easy. I just don't have that much free time and can't generally only shoot for these challenges at weekends and then slowly work on the images in the evenings during the week.)

and what an awesome image. One of those wish I had looked closer images that grow on you. Nice.

My opinion is one of many, and probably differs greatly from the norm.

It would be a very boring world if we all had the same opinions and I think you should celebrate the fact that you have a different set of preferences. You're certainly allowing a lot more people to feel appreciated and I for one was very glad that you were the sole person to vote for my blue entry in the dominant colours challenge.

Tried to vote in both, but couldn't get my vote to record in Eligible.
Congratulations to all who participated. Another gallery of amazing photos.

I played sports at a club. Each time I played, the same players beat me, and the same others I left behind. Sometimes there was a little shift, me having a good day, others a bad one. I could only hope to get better. And I still enjoyed the sport. Same with photography.

I do not buy that buddy bs. I am not part of a clique. I do not participate in these challenges enough to be part of anything. Yet, my images sometimes enter the top ten. Sometimes above images that are better IMO, sometimes the other way around. But I can always see why the voting went the way it did.

About the well known names around here. For me that cuts both ways. Sometimes they come with a good picture to cslr_challenge standards, but IMO to their standards they could do better. Sometimes a 'newbie' enters a good image rising above their standards. Good days and bad ones...

Yes there is a bias in the sort of images that are likely to generate more votes. Street/candid photography is not a favorite way to capture the theme. And yes, sometimes a great image wich is not that good on topic still generates a lot of votes. But other then that...

There are more competitions on photography. Maybe it is best you tried your luck elsewhere.

shoot!

The wife's a PharmD, who knows what she's been putting in my tea from week to week? Maybe she's running the gamut to see what will make me most likely to take the trash out consistently? I could just see her little day planner/notebook with:

Day 12: 12mg Valium BID: Ooh...more chocolates and flowers today. Might try increasing the dosage but I don't want to get too greedy. The narcolepsy is a little annoying... but hey, there's chocolate and flowers.

Day 15: 15mg Valium BID: Bad idea on the dose increase. He just sits on the couch and stares at the TV, and IT'S NOT EVEN ON.

Day 20: 8mg Valium BID: Hmm...improved response and activity, but I think he's burning out a bit. It might be time for some psychotropics/antidepressants. The drooling has stopped but he's still behaving erratically. Just yesterday he had his camera all setup, buried himself in calendar clippings with only one eye showing, and said "Hey honey, does this look like Chaos?" Checked the tazer batteries just in case.
