What google product? Do you mean Google Drive?

I just did a test on my Mac. I created a folder, added a CR3 file to it, installed Google Drive (I have had it before on a different computer) and synced that folder. Then I went to a browser and navigated to google drive and downloaded the file. It was identical to the original.

What do you mean by Google here? Google drive? Google photos? Some other service?

If photos, this might help: https://m.dpreview.com/opinion/2987639607/pixel-9-pro-raw-files-sync-mac-pc-iphone

From what I know, photos stacks raw and jpeg, you need to get both when downloading. By default you are just seeing jpegs

I stopped using Google photos long ago once I realised they only encourage adding data easily and don't provide any easy means to manage the data. Specially painful if you want to curate or delete a lot of images. A library without data maintenance tools was not something I wanted to deal with

How are you getting the files off the camera?

I'd been considering using an Android tablet to backup files/view files when away from a desktop computer. When I transferred files using Camera Connect the files were converted to JPEG.

Canon told me the rename may not happen on all tablets, it depends on the processor. Why I don't know.

I can transfer them as CR3 files using a card reader successfully. I haven't found Android software which lets me copy files incrementally e.g. by date as I can do using Lightroom on a PC.

Lightroom Mobile on Android can copy CR3 files, but it saves them to a hidden folder and renames them.
