CP 4300 continuous auto-focus

I just got my 4300 a few days ago. Although the continuous auto-focus mode can be turned off (single-af) in manual mode, it cannot be turned off in Auto mode. Can I just use Manual mode all of the time? What will I lose in automatic features?

David: Set to single AF and leave all the other settings at default. That's how I use mine, never use auto. You can also experiment with other settings within the M mode. Good luck, you've got a fine camera there. Gary

I also bought a 4300 a few days ago and am getting used to it. I do intend to learn to use the manual features, but I am concerned about the annoying continuous AF in Auto mode. Even I do learn to use manual mode exclusively, I don't expect my wife to

Yes, I agree Jerry. My wife has a simple point and shoot Nikon film camera. That is the most she wants to learn. This camera is for me, although she may use it occasionally.

I do want to learn to use the manual settings effectively. Though one of the selling points was that it was easy to use in auto mode. I'd be interested in hearing others' comments on the following two questions:

1. Does it take longer to take pictures using manual mode? This might not matter for shots of flowers, etc., but would be an issue when things might move (like pets).

2. Do people use the auto mode, and if so, do you consider the continuous auto focus a feature or a bug?
