I too own the D200 with the 18-200 VR lens... I love it, BUT, if Noise is a concern, especially at high ISO there is a big difference between Nikon and Canon. I have to run ALL my images through Noise Ninja, which in turn reduces sharpness a tiny fraction.
I love Nikon, the tradeoff is worth it for me, but you need to know that Nikon does not handle noise as well as Canon does. (I hope I don't get flamed for this, just my experience here)
