Comments on Articles are not part of the current migration. However, as they contain input by members there are relations with the forums, though the software implementation is different.

I think that it would be useful to have a look at how the Comments are operated.

Some pro and cons on the current situation:

+ the way you see Comments can be changed by the reader [new to old, old to new, most popular, staff picks

+ it is directly accessible from the article

- reactions to articles often also come in other places: brand forums for reviews, the new Articles subforum. This could become confusing

- articles [especially the reviews] cover a lot of ground, not alway clear what a commenter is referring to

- often the format seems to encourage a sort of drive-by shooting posting, not leading or even wanting to lead to discussion

I'm not sure how this could be improved.

There's the possibility of the article comments being updated too.

Just off the top of my head, here are a couple of general possibilities:

- Article comments are redirect to the forums with specific forum posts

- The article comment system is updated itself in some way

- We find a completely new comment solution, something that lives in software like WordPress or something else.

- ??

Any other site examples of article comments you find more receptive, please share. Thanks!

I don’t visit many sites where both the editorial side and the forum side are strong, it’s one of the strengths of dpr, but the connections could be better. One thing that could work is what you recently started doing is a post from the team in the News forum about a new article. I’d suggest that for Reviews the specific brand forum might work better. For instance, putting posts about the new Fujifilm XC 13-33 in the Fuji X forum.

I would then close the loop by ending the article with a message that you can comment under the article (I would not close that for the moment) or via a link that redirects to that thread.

With Reviews in progress, I would like to see a new post and changed link for each installment.

Unless I am mistaken, this would not require big SW changes
