With shiny metals you are not photographing the object really, you are shooting what they reflect. And so as mentioned above, you need to experiment with lighting position, angle and strength.
and the tutorial didn't have a light tent, just one reflecting panel for each side. Of course the gist of the tutorial is what everyone else has said here, and that's what's reflected is what's captured, not the color, size or method. So, it's a matter of determining what you want in the reflection.
