>> Challenge 75: "Five" - Voting thread <<

I liked them, personally.

While it's good to try to expand your horizons, it's not bad to have a recognizeable style.

I can generally tell that I'm hearing Mozart or Haydn or Bach or Beethoven or Brahms or Rossini when I hear their work - even if I'm not familiar with the exact piece. But that doesn't mean that I find their work to be cr4p.

I was sorry to see those shots withdrawn, but the artist has the ultimate right to make that decision. Many a writer, composer, or whatever - has destroyed or otherwise "pulled" works that they decided they didn't like. It's a time-honored tradition, actually.

So I respect your decisions. But I did like the shots :)

Dearest Nico:

Just because of your continuing interest and kindness, I started to put together a photo essay on the Atlantic Rain Forest. I was going to post it here as a general thread, but knowing me, I'll never finish or post it.

I did post this to my travel site, but some of it is still not up to snuff for here.

However, without you kicking me in the butt, I would not have worked on it at all.

It's 3:56am here in CA, I'm just finishing up a big project for someone in trouble...and so, my last act before bed will be to post this darned thing.

(Heck, I was going to up-load all of these, but instead here's the link)

I think we have an hour and a half left, but I was going to confirm with that link. I have a poker tournament that starts at 7PM central, which I think is the time voting for this challenge ends, right?

....I haven't wanted to say anything because of the voting, but there is I fear a problem brewing. We'll see.

There is, I think, kind of an unwritten rule on the subject...and now it has come to the fore.

Hummmmm....

I've gotta get something to eat, but I'll come back to this.

...congratulations to Vikas, of course. If I didn't consider him a bit of a friend, I wouldn't point out the following.

The problem re-surfaced in the Character Study Challenge when Michael Puff entered his wonderful clown image having won the previous Challenge Structures, with his foggy San Francisco composite. I held my breath, hoping that Mr. Puff didn't win two in a row.

This has never, to my knowledge, ever happened before. But now it has.

It was my understanding that the winner, the person that chose the Challenge theme, could not enter images into his own Challenge. I remember this being debated 9 or 10 months ago. I do not remember if this was adopted as a rule or not, but it was a question lingering out there.

It may well be the case that this is such a rare occurence that it may fairly be ignored...or not.

But I bring up the issues especially because, Vikas being Vikas...lol...may well win the next one also.

So, I guess I'm soliciting opinions on this question.

Best Wishes,

Traveller

Well, I had a fairly miserable finish at the poker tournament. I went all in with a queen high flush and got wiped out with someone's full house.

Well, for obvious reasons, I must recuse myself from any discussion about this. Where is everyone? I expected to see some commentary by now. Don't be bashful.

There's never been a rule (written or unwritten) about it. because no one sees it as a problem. It's not like the host is the judge and has chosen their own photo as the winning one. They just chose the topic.

In the early CTF challenge, Iso used to often win his own challenges.

Cheers,

Gayle

I think Gayle's comment is the critical one. It is not spelled out or referred to in the "RULES" then it would be unwise to suddenly impose this condition, regardless of whether it was implied or understood by the foundation members.

It hasn't been a problem, if it becomes a problem then it should be addressed and then written into the rules in my view.

So... GOOD POINT.... but congratulations Vikas ..... (again! or should it be STILL LOL?)

AND congratulations Victor... just a smidge short of a win.. great post.

I've reordered the top 9 pictures. I'm waiting with baited breath for the announcement of the next topic.

Congratulations also to Cat. I wonder if Tops would have fared any better in the poles without competion from Bases.

I wonder if anyone else noticed something I noticed. The top three images this time were all in portrait orientation and all had a similar overall shape. I'm not sure if that means anything or not. Probably not.

To all the winners: Fantastic and very well done!

To all who did not win: congratulations on excellent entries and I am sure you had just as much fun as I did.

:-) Let's now give Vikas a real run for his money... otherwise it might end up being three in a row! :-)

Regards to all jnconradie

...maybe even a continuation of the discussion had a number of months ago, which, as I think about it, ended pretty much the same way...with the observation that iso won the Canon Challenge with some frequency.

Which I brought up because I thought the subject interesting, and because...that's what I do in my life...bring up interesting stuff.

No biggie.

Certainly not in the larger scheme of things.

Best Wishes,

Traveller
