Wow! Thanks for all the submissions. They really rolled in at the
last moment. Looks like it'g going to be a difficult decision
again!

You need not to have submitted to cast your votes. Let's just try
to this with as little chaos as possible!

In keeping with our last competition, which Paul hosted so well,
the rules will remain the same. In fact, the text of this post is
identical (thanks Paul!) Only the dates have been changed, of
course (to protect the innocent).

VOTING GUIDELINES

PLEASE - VOTE WITHIN THIS THREAD.

To make it easier to count the votes, PLEASE respond to the
ORIGINAL post (click on 1st / original post and reply there, please
do NOT place votes in a "reply" to a "reply")

You have 16 points total to work with for each gallery if you
choose. (32 total for both galleries.)

The first & only "requirement"... Cast 4 points for your very
favorite SINGLE photo in each gallery.

You can then award up to 12 more points in each gallery. You are
not required to cast any or all of these additional 12 points...or
to cast them the same way in each gallery. Vote according to your
style preference.

Maximum points allowed per photo is 4. (At least one photo in each
gallery must have a 4)

Honorable mentions & comments...as many as you would like.

To show appreciation for each other's work, in the traditional
friendly spirit of the challenges, PLEASE VOTE FOR PHOTOS OTHER
THAN YOUR OWN. None of the "header" photos are meant to receive any
votes.

If you cast a series of "same point" votes, it really helps if you
list them in "gallery order". We can tally them a lot easier that
way...thank you for helping us by doing this.

Here is the format for voting:

Competition:

4pts_ Title by Artist
(X)pts_ Title by Artist (This repeats as you see fit)

Exhibition:

4pts_ Title by Artist
(X)pts_ Title by Artist (This repeats as you see fit)

Voting: from the creation of this thread until Thursday May 13th,
10 PM Fernandina Beach, FL . . . Hahira, GA . . . Yeehaw
Junction, FL . . . New York City

For the winner of C7, congratulations in advance! :o)

I have set up the PBase galleries for C8. Please e-mail me through the link in my profile if you want any additional help or just want to shoot the breeze about C8. The last couple of moderators have found that some help from people like Claudio (Klaudio) and me makes the moderator job quite easy from the PBase technical viewpoint and it can be handy to have a sounding board or two for weird and wonderful ideas before posting indelible messages for all to see. ;o)

You may even decide to completely redesign the galleries for C8. However, if you are happy to stick with what is there, to get the C8 galleries going, log in to pbase.com as usual as if you were going to post a Challenge entry (mtf_foto_studies and mtfforum), then go here (C8 main gallery edit screen):
http://upload.pbase.com/mtf_foto_studies/c8_topic&edit=Y

Go into the title field in the edit screen for each of the 3 galleries (C8 main gallery + comp and exhibition galleries) and put in the topic (and your name as hoster in the main gallery title).

You will also need to dive into the html code in the description field of each of the 3 galleries to include the topic wherever [topic] appears, plus provide a description of that topic if you want to. If you want to change the entry and/or voting dates or times, you will also need to do that in the html code. It really is not hard. Just be sure to select 'update gallery' when you have made the changes.

Edit both the comp and exhibition galleries to post a header pic to each of those galleries (then edit to get the names right) and all the C8 galleries will appear for everyone to see as if by magic. :o)

That said, you may want some other changes. I have tentatively changed the max pic size allowance from 150kB +10% to a straight 200kB in both the C8 galleries info and in the rules, based on my experience of managing the housekeeping and what you can achieve within the current 165kB (150+10%). The limits can easily be changed in the C8 galleries and rules gallery to whatever values the moderator decides. The majority of pics can easily fit within 165kB at excellent pic quality with no trouble, but some pics would definitely benefit from a bit more, particularly those with areas of strong red colour, but there are others too like where there is lots of fine detail. We have a healthy limit on our PBase mtf_foto_studies galleries, so don't worry about that. The bigger concern should be keeping file sizes under control for faster downloads for viewers, so hopefully people will respect that idea and not get carried away with trying to use all of the 200kB limit all the time (if it changes to 200kB). That said, the size limits are not my decision, just a suggestion.

The rules on assignment of voting points can just as easily be changed to reflect 4 for 1st choice only, then a max of 3 for each other pic, if that is what is decided. That is certainly the consensus so far with those who have expressed an interest in the separate thread to discuss the voting points topic.

It is now Wednesday night here. I will be on travel from 0730 Thursday morning, back Friday evening to check on C8 (Adelaide is GMT+9.5 hours, or Eastern USA DST + 13.5 hours). Hopefully I will get time to vote for C7 in the morning before I leave. :o)

I can't begin to tell everyone in the MTF how helpful JDU has been to us all. He has done virtually ALL of the heavy lifting in our competition and exhibition galleries.

JDU . . . thanks for all you do for us!
