My favorite picture is the one I'm taking right now

(a) How long should a Challenge run? [Pick just one , your
"sweet-spot"]...
3. Cross three (3) weekends
Probably best. 2 weekends might be a bit fast. I'd rather be stuck waiting, antsy for it to end, with no more entry spaces for me, than to have a shot that I really want to get in but don't have a chance to process or upload. There's nothing more frustrating than being a day late or a $ short.
4. Even longer
I think more than that leads to boredom from waned enthusiasm as time goes by. Shorter means more energy and staying psyched. Hmmmm.... maybe 2 weekends would be better! LOL! I don't know, 2... 3.... put me in for a 1/2 vote on each! LOL!
(b) Is it OK if the Voting Thread overlaps (starts or ends during)
the weekend?
1. Nope
NO! Weekends are prime shooting time for so many people. Midweek for starts and voting is great. It also gives us a cay or two to gear up for what we'll be planning tot shoot for the weekend.
Subsequent hosts will still determine the schedules. I'll just
tally your feedback and make it known to those that follow.
Great idea. :)

REFERENDUM

(a) How long should a Challenge run? [Pick just one , your
"sweet-spot"]...

1. Cross two (2) weekends.......Vote for this as this allows enough time to get entries in.
2. Run two (2) full weeks
3. Cross three (3) weekends
4. Even longer

(b) Is it OK if the Voting Thread overlaps (starts or ends during)
the weekend?
1. Nope..........vote for this.
2. Yep

ELIGIBLE VOTES...........................

TWO POINTS TO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

Jeanne by JLN.........a beautifully taken shot, great B&W treatment, very natural and unposed.

PIP by Lonnit Rysher......great idea, very creative; made me smile :-)

Dolly by Rahul Dutta......beautifully taken, sharp and clear, great lighting, love this in B&W.

Bonding by Roberta......Extremely natural and a beautiful example of mother/child bonding.

Beth by Eric Lamont..........Soft, sensuous moment between mother and unborn child, love the soft glow on the mother to be, very nice.

I think it's clear that there are some photographers who are a cut above the rest here - shutter, iso3200, Joe reilly.

What I propose is that those people who win the eligibile competition get promoted to an Elite competition - and the rest of us less capable ( ;) ) photographers can bounce around in the eligible competition. Hopefully there'll be enough supply of Fresh Meat to keep the eligible competition going.

What do you think ?

As for the referendum -

A(1) Two weekends
B(2) Yes, as long as some working days are included.

REFERENDUM
(a) - 3 - working shifts means time is sometimes difficult, the extra weekend really helps for me

(b) 1 - Nope - though, in all honestly it doesn't make that much difference. I'd have preferred a "3 - Not Bothered" here!
3 pts: Summer Sky by Gayle. Simply great, and a fantastic opener to the gallery.
2 pts: Siblings by Vikas. Very engaging.
2 pts: Mohican by Teapot. Striking, well done.

2 pts: P.I.P. by Lonnit. Neat idea, well executed. Clearly helps to have a willing model!

Honourable mention:

Snowboy by Thea B. I don't know what it is about this, I kept coming back to it.. and yet...
EXHIBITION Gallery:
3 pts: Not the Soap by Gayle. Considering she claims not to "do" portraits, I'd say she does OK...

3 pts: Urban Cowboy by Tim Dahl. Worked for me much better than his other versions... engaging.
2 pts: Remi by JLN.
2 pts: Taz by John Brain. Well posed, excellent.

In summary: So many images made this difficult to judge and I felt I had to go with the thumbnails - even with Broadband it would have taken too long to review each image individually (though I think I have actually seen every one full screen at least once).

Also, a slight tendancy to the predictible "children" images - though I'm equally guilty (I guess they are the obvious subjects for many of us), and while I know Joe suggested that this shouldn't be too formal, I still found myself chosing images which really do fall into the category of Portraits (whether formal or candid) as opposed to images just containing people.

I'll get off my soapbox now!

Great work everyone, some truly fantastic images (and I know I have missed HM's for some outstanding work - but equally I know that these images will get mentioned elsewhere anyway!

Thank you, Phil I am honoured and flattered.

To clarify, I think my remark was that "portraits are not my thing"....but I love taking photos of people and I take heaps of my kids, cos they are worth taking photos of :-)

However, the term "portrait" brings to mind posed studio shots.....which I have never liked (apologies to all those who enjoy doing them). No matter how technically excellent, they always seem cold and sterile to me. So portraits are still "not my thing" but taking bright, colourful and natural shots of my family, my friends and any stranger I can catch with the long lens will always be fun to do.
Thank you for your votes and your comments :-)

What do you think ?
What I think: Uncle Canon is going to take a second swipe at the focus calibration on my 10D and my lenses for the next two weeks. So I'm on Injured Reserve for a while. I should have timed it to coincide with this Challenge, as I have had no time to shoot.

Oh well. A seat in the bleachers, a beer, and a hot dog for me. Go team!

Thanks for your overly-generous comment. I embarrass easily and you just tripped that wire.
