This will be a loose challenge, with a deep dive in your archives, or maybe just some pattern you could not resist during your latest holiday travels.

The challenge is: Abstract Architecture, in the broadest sense.

Anything with buildings, mirror glass fronts, shapes, blocks, repetition, black/and white abstractions of something build by humans.

As long as you have to look twice to see what it is.

*For each entry, please include a brief description and preferably a location

*The Challenge will run until Midnight MDT on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025

*You may enter three images, but please post each one separately with its own title.

*Entering the contest means accepting the job of hosting the contest if chosen the winner.

*Images can have been taken at any time with any camera, but a Nikon would be nice of course (I have to admit, I sometimes abuse my iPhone, so you're excused ;-) )

*Enjoy—and Good Luck!

All the best,

VidJa

Below are some examples, mostly older and taken with a D50 or D3100 and one from 21 years ago

Do you walk into an art exhibit or walk up to an artist at his easel and say "let me see a brush, I'll fix it for you"?
That is ludicrous.

Most of my architecture shots were taken while traveling or working and were taken with my smaller (non-Nikon) cameras. I found a few and will have more time for a deeper dive next week.

Private residence on Lake Minnetonka. Historically, Lake Minnetonka was viewed as a vacation destination and much of it was dotted with small villages and cottages. There may be a small cottage left somewhere, but much more common are multi million dollar homes. Most are just big but there a number of architecturally interesting are present including this -

Well, this may not qualify but better to beg forgiveness than ask for permission....

Construction of US Bank Stadium (home of the Minnesota Vikings) was going to be a big deal given the size and cost, much of it borne by the taxpayer, location in downtown Minneapolis and association with the NFL. I can't imagine the site coordination to make it all come together....

These were only some of the cranes on site

The following are exhibits.

The finished stadium as seen from a parking ramp. Design is more love it or hate it.

Viewed from the inside during setup for a convention. I'm not much of a big time sports fan, but it is an impressive facility - should be for $1 billion.

Architecture in London is often thought to be very traditional. However, contemporary offices seem to strive to be more abstract than what came before. This was from a work trip to Lloyds - the metallic building in the foreground is part of the Lloyds complex. The taller building behind is the Gherkin, also known by other names.... More recent builds are even more abstract.

This building is located in southeast Wisconsin. It has a long history of many attempts to be profitable. Now a historical place, it holds a definite charm for photographers. The abstract aspect of this image for me, is the shadow of the tree in late afternoon light with a B&W interpretation.

That’s a superb image Howard, glad you are still using your DSLR. I have been totally phone for the last six months and not particularly enjoying it so I am having a rethink! Nice to see your images as usual

This is Florida’s old capitol building which is in front of the newer 22 story capitol. It is actually straight across the front, but when I tried to do a stitched photo, Lightroom created this curved version which I like because it doesn’t look like a normal photo of the capitol

I did a tour of this place when it first opened. The exterior is impressive looking, but I found the interior to be rather sterile (outside of staring up at the roof) walking through the concourse. I'd rather catch a game at Lambeau Field - it has a lot more personality.

I’d rather see a game at Lambeau for a whole lot of reasons - number 1 being I spent my first 25 years 20 miles south of Green Bay. GO PACK.
