I dunno why the browser wont load!!!

You did fix the error on page though! Thanks alot.

Patt.
Does the rest of the booth work for you? Do the thumbnails load as

..when I pressed the vote button nothing happened. HELP?

M
Time to start voting, and as already mentioned this time we'll try
online automated voting in the new "CSLR Challenge Voting Booth" at

http://www.liteserv.com/cslrvotebooth/index.php

Please go on over there and start putting down your votes! (Note:
There seems to be a one hour time difference for some reason so the
voting booth may not be open for another hour). The booth will stay
open for two days, after its closing I'll update the galleries to
reflect the final standings.

This is new to me as well so I hope those of you who have used this
system before can help with any questions.

Please also use this thread to discuss if you like this system of
voting and if it should be used for future challenges.

Thanks!

No biggie, as I didn't think it was a very popular photo, and entered it to share rather than win, but it seems that the photo below was deleted from the exhibition gallery. It was probably (and hopefully) just accidental. But as host of the challenge I thought you should know, Anders. Thanks.

Hi Joe

I'm sorry you didn't notice but your picture is too big and was moved by me to the Pending gallery, http://www.pbase.com/cslr_challenge/c12_pending_exhibition . Had you seen this you could have uploaded a smaller version.

I thought I posted enough reminders for everyone to be aware of this. Sorry about that!

The comment you left in the exhibition gallery voting booth has me wondering. Why did photos without the photographers name on the thumbnail NOT capture your attention? Are you casting a vote for the photo or the photographer?

I never put my name on the thumbnail......I want my photos to stand on their own merits. Does that mean that you never consider my photos when you are voting? Do you even look at them?

I am interested to know....I am sure that the other photographers who don't add their name to the thumbnail are also interested to know why their photos didn't capture your attention too. Some of them are superb.

I don't interpret the rules to mean that you have to have a name on the thumbnail. Just as long as there is a name registered in the picture details.

I have a feeling it's quite common in groups like this to be influenced by who the photographer is when you comment and vote. Maybe it would be interesting to have a "blind voting" system where you don't know who the photograper is until after the voting. I think however that these challenges are more about the social side of having a common interest and hobby, rather than winning a contest. An anonymous system would remove much of the community feeling. Some perhaps partly vote for the photograper rather than 100% for the image, but I don't have a problem with that.

Which is exactly why I don't put my name on the thumbnail, but DO attach it to the photo in the gallery. This does not make it a blind voting system......all the names are there in the galleries, but it makes it a little fairer, because then ALL the interesting/good/dramatic/well composed photos get clicked on and looked at...not just the ones taken by those who's work you already know and admire.

I am just curious to know why Mark dismissed, out of hand, all the photos that did not have the names on the thumbnails. Does having the name there make it a better photo?

I agree I'm curious that Mark has stated this... as this kind of discussion has arisen a few times (and I always put my oar in!)

There was a time a few challenges ago where I believed some images might have been getting votes based on who they were shot by. Someone else suggested totally anonymous entries (with your details logged with the host) but that was quickly rejected for many, many reasons.

A compromise was sort of reached when someone suggested leaving the name off the Thumbnail, just logging in the "Author's Name" field. Personally, I believe this is a very good system and removes any unintentional bias ("Ooh, that one's by John Smith, I'll have a look at that") and hopefully gets everyone looking at all the images.

I'd be saddened to think that any of my images weren't being voted on because of this (as opposed to them not being good enough!).

...and voted.

Hard as usual, to pick only five images. So many nice shots! In choosing, I looked for photos where the lighting was what made the shot. I seemed to steer away from "special-effects" and pictures of lights - that's not what the challenge was about to me. Some I thought were really, really nice, but I didn't feel that the lighting was what made the shot. Just to take one example of that:

Georgiabyte, I loved that one and had the theme been something more fitting, this shot would have ranked high in my voting!

I've had it in for you since Day One and flatly refuse to look at, much less vote for, any of your images. Something about Brits named "Phil" who share photos of their kidz presses all the wrong buttons. Change your name (e.g. Psycho3200) and I'll reconsider.

Tongue squarely in-cheek, just couldn't resist my boyish impulses ( sMiLe ).

...I nearly fell off my chair in shock!

...then I realised you've never voted for any of my images anyway ("many a true word spoken in jest" and all that) so I thought "ah, no loss!"

I guess this really exemplifies the saying 'to each his own'. Seems many of the entries look liberty in defining light, and many also took the opportunity to use their imagination in the shots...that is what I really liked about this competition (and all the competitions), I get so many good ideas and effects I want to try after seeing all the great entries.

Let me clarify: I didn't say it was WRONG to try "special effects" or shooting lights, I just wanted to explain why I chose like I did. My personal preferences are just such that I am much more impressed with a simple shot supported by good lighting, than I am with an advanced shot of some unusual light source or phenomenon. That's why I specifically wrote "to me".

Yes, you are so right in "to each his own"! In voting in these challenges, I would hope and expect all to vote strictly according to their own tastes and preferences - and no doubt, the votes will spread on many different images. Thank goodness for that!

To sum it up: I wrote what I wrote to share the thoughts I had during voting - not to say that other interpretations were inferior in any way...

Ok, I accept the blame for my stupidity on this but.........

NOWHERE in this voting thread are there voting rules / parameters listed!!

SOOOOO, what did I do????

I followed your link to the 'voting booth" again, no voting rules / parameters listed.

I picked out 5 choices (that's how many options were shown)

I voted up to 5 (!) points for each image....'cause that's how many options were shown)

So, I can assure you, I went OVER the 16 point limit per gallery.....

only reminded by Andy Williams, who was nice enough to let me know through email).

Whatsup now? Can I "fix it" ? How do I fix it?

What a mess,
Markjay
