Hi folks.

After the decision process for the DC, I am now on another (more dificult?)for the G3 case.
Here's the situation:
  • must hold the G3 (doh), 3-4 CF cards, the remote and (maybe) extra batt
  • must have the space for a future 420EX, lens adapter e filters :)
  • if it has space for the AC adapter I wouldn't mind
  • if I am able to put it in my everyday backpack it would be good
  • yes to shoulder strap
I've been seeing the following:
Lowepro Nova Micro/Mini or 1/2, D-Res 30/40/50, or finally Tamrac Digital 6.

Any insight will be highly appreciated

Seems like a pretty good list. You might also want to consider the Crumpler product line. I've yet to hold one in my hand. But they look like and nice uncommon option. One of the things I like best about the Crumplers is they don't announce themselves as camera bags. Adding some to the theft derernent factor.

I looked at that Nova Mini over the weekend. I didn't have my gear with me so I could not test for fit.

I have almost the same requiremenst as you so I'll be interested to see what you pick.

I know, but none of the threads has been of much help to me.

Were you thinking in any line in particularly or the SportyGuy 1.6+ ? They seem pretty cool ;)

That's exactly my problem: I don't have access to the bags to test them for fit.

Go to a camera store and bring all your stuff. Try out how it fits in different bags. Buy the bag that it all fits in best.

Tnx, but I think you didn't saw my reply to Greg where I say:

BTW, If you have a G3 or similar, what is the bag that you use, if any?

Tnx again

When I bought my Pro90, it was bundled with a very nice padded Canon branded shoulder bag. It has three compartments inside, with the middle compartment big enough for the Pro90, and each side compartment about the exact size for a 420EX. This might be a little big for you, but you could always pack a small folded hand towel to take up the space and add a little cushioning. The additional compartment would be perfect for additional lenses, chargers, etc. It has a webbed outside pocket on one side that is perfect for CF cards and the remote. There is also a double outside open pocket that runs the length of the front of the bag. It's covered by the top flap but it is open (not zippered). You can put cards, lens cleaning kits, filters, etc. inside. By double, I mean that there are two pockets stacked on top of each other (one big pocket with a divider that runs 1/3rd the length of the pocket, esentially giving you a short pocket and a long pocket, with a little room between the small pocket wall and the outer wall of the pocket (I'm not sure if I'm describing this clearly).

The inner dividers are of course velcroed, which means that you can turn it into one large compartment if you want. The top flap is only secured to the bag by two quick release buckles but the flap is long enough to secure the contents. This means that you have quick access without having to unzip the whole top. The web pocket on the outside is zippered.

The size of the bag is about perfect - not too big and not too small. It's about 10" wide, 8" tall and 6" deep. It has a "metalized" Canon logo on the flap. It also has a hand strap on the back so that you can carry it without the shoulder strap.

It's a very well-designed bag indeed.

You can see it here and buy it for $39.95. I highly recommend it. Two things though - the top isn't reinforced, so it doesn't hold a crisp shape, although the corners are nicely finsihed. The other thing is that you might wish to either mask the Canon logo with black tape, or remove it completely, since it telegraphs its contents to a discerning thief.

Tnx, but I think you didn't saw my reply to Greg where I say:
I stopped by Kenmore Camera in the way home to do some fitting. I had the G3 with me but had left the 420 at home.

I looked a that Nova Mini and Micro. They also had the Crumplers. There were a ton of other bags that I had never heard of.

My favorite was the Nova Micro. It was just barely large enough to hold the flash and the G3. Theres a tad bit of room for other stuff.

The Crumplers were much funkier than I was braced for. I really liked the unique and uncommon aspects of these bags. They seemed very well built. It did seem a tad difficult to get in and out of them. There was zippers clips, and flap that you have to fold back, all just to get in the main compartment.

I tested out the Digits and the Private Diner. The Digit might hold the G3 but it would tight. I tried to squeeze it in, but held off when it looked like it was going to require some extra pushing.,

The Private Diner on the other hand was very roomy. Perhaps to much so. The G3 and flash would fit comfortably along side the STE-2. Oh wait I don't have one. Well that would be a good excuse. I'd have the room, so naturally I'd have to fill it. At the time I didn't realize there is a smaller crumpler called the Hedge Diver. I need to go back and test out that one.

In the end I could decide and thought I should come back with the flash in hand and retest for fit.

I could leave empty handed so I picked up and Giottos Q-Pod mini telescoping tripod. It's cool!

Do you think It will hold the remote and CFs? and (pushing it) the charger? Or for the charger I would need to go for the Mini?

hold the G3 but it would tight. I tried to squeeze it in, but held

The Crumplers have been on my mind also. Especially because they don't look like camera bags :)
Which Digit did you try?

I still don't have the 420EX, so I need a bag that will allow me to put it in when I get it. Not thinking about the STE-2..

No problem for the G3, Flash, in the main compartment. Tight but doable. You'd probably need to take the 420 out of its own case. There's also a small pocket in front the would easily hold a battery, remote, a few CF and some cables. It'd be tight if you had them all in the same time.

Sorry, the charger won't fit. I didn't look to closely mini. But as I recall I may have had enough room for the charger.

Uh oh. I didn't realize there was more than one. At there was only one model on display. Looking the web page I suspect it was the 0.3 liter. I'm going to need to check out the whole line on my next trip.

I've pretty much decided that I will get the STE-2 sooner or later. So I will likely end up a bag that will accomidate it.

Will do.
