Capture NX Software

So far, Capture NX looks incredible.
Up until now, Capture (and the other RAW converters) were not
editing programs, just converters. Looks like this takes it to a
whole new creative level. Can't wait to use it.
I share your enthusiasm Alan. If the pre-release blurb is to be believed, this is going to be a stunning advance.

Several colleagues of me almost hate Capture.

Personally I feel Capture is already a great program, there is one big downpoint, it can be terrible slow, and further the GUI looks like it is made for Windows 3.11 (^^) By means of functionality and result I'm happy with it.

I'm really looking forward to the NX version, the features sound very nice!

Use it most of the time in combination with CS2

£119.99
€179.

No mention of upgrade price from Capture 4 as yet.

Frustratingly the UK site declares a release date of May.

Does Nikon do upgrades? I don't believe they provided an upgrade path from NC3 to NC4. I hope they do, but I'm not holding my breath.

it is going into a new level? With cost of $180? On May?

If you have enough RAM, the files litterally smoke out of the NC series. Much better than the PSCS2 converter IMHO.

The only weaker aspect is the Dlighting compared to the shadows and Highlights in PSCS2 but otherwise, it is fantastic.

I was just looking for information on this. As usual the users come out of the woodwork defending the current NC. All I know is that if I can run Autodesk Inventor, Photoshop, C1, RSP, and a host of other programs while NC is the only slow/buggy app I have then NC is the problem. Those of you that know what a memory hog Inventor can be will appreciate this.

I sure hope Nikon gets it right this time. Hopefully this is a product they farmed out to someone that actually knows what they are doing. I'd love a useable NC finally.

Hi

Nikon View Pro and Capture NX is already advertised on Nikon UK site.

No sign of a download link for View Pro yet though.

Since upgrading my machine I've been unable to get NC to run, and have been waiting for a newer version that hopefully addresses this issue.

Looks very interesting.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the influence of NIK will pay off in these new applications with better user interfaces, extended capability and most important better performance.

I've got a fairly high powered system and NC is usable, but I would never call it fast. Although saying that none of the app's I use are particularly fast at decoding NEF's.

Do you think it will be free? I bet it won't. Generally a "Pro" designation means commercial software.
