About a week ago I started a thread about how I couldn’t connect my G9X II to my phone:

Canon camera connect app won't connect to G9X II: Canon PowerShot Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)

Although I got a lot of suggestions none of them solved my problem. So I decide to send Canon an email to explain what went wrong and asking them if they could correct it. I even included a few screenshots to show were it went wrong.

Much to my surprise I got a reply:

Dear,

Thank you for contacting Canon and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

The issue you are experiencing may be related to SD memory card, camera does not manage data/file system on the memory cards and if you regularly delete images on the memory card it can cause issues with the FAT system of the SD card and this can create MISC files and can slow the speed of the memory card OR can corrupt the memory card OR doesn’t allow wireless connection.

If you can please back up the information from the SD card first and then format the card in the camera and take some test shot prior to connecting with Canon camera connect APP.

Yours sincerely,

(I removed the names and a few empty lines)

Formatting my SD card was a bit too much work at this moment. So I used a new SD card instead.

My G9 X II once again connected just fine.

Hopes this can also help others to solve their connection problems.

Glad your problem was solved.

Formatting your card (in camera as suggested by canon) is not much work:

1. press menu

2. go to the wrench tab

3. on the first page choose third item "format"

4. check "Low Level Format" and press OK

I do this every time I removed the card for file transfer to delete everything.

Let me clarify myself a bit: it's not the formatting, it's more making a backup before the formatting that takes a lot of time.

And no, you don't have to explain to me how to make a backup.
