Camera size - why should FF cameras be large?

My favorite camera of all time is probably the Nikon FE2. Perfect size, IMO, and very similar to my Sony.

About the same size as my "early love", the Rolleiflex SL35 … ;-)

Funny, I think of my A7Rii as the digital version of the Contax RTS-II; it has roughly the same weight, but no grip on the left.

I'd have preferred a very small grip (like the Fuji XE-2) to the big one the A7Rii has, but I almost always hold the camera by the lens (except with the 35mm f/2.8).
