C5 Speed boost + Recall Custom hold button

C5 Speed boost button doesn't work when Recall Custom hold button is pressed simultaneously together. (e.g changing only ISO with [Recall Custom hold 3] button + [Cnt Sht Spd Bst Toggle] to 30 fps)

[Reg. Custom Shoot Set] settings does have [Cnt Shoot Speed Boost] item that can be registered but I have that unchecked. Usually if I leave an item unchecked or unregistered such as drive mode that is not overridden with button press.

Any workaround?

M1: 20FPS Lossless, Aperture Priority, ISO-Auto: Fast. This mode suits most of everyday subjects.

M2: 30FPS Lossy, AP, ISO-Auto: Fastest (1/4x focal length)This mode suits for predictable fast motion.

M3: 30FPS Lossy, T Priority, T starts from 1/1000s. This mode suits for unpredictable relatively fast motion. You can adjust your T value accordingly.

I use custom holds to set other things like exposure, af ... I use one of them to turn on/off precapture.

The point of the C5 button is quick changes of FPS avoiding excessive shots when not needed. (E.g following a bird of prey, don't need 30FPS of it hovering in the sky, but when it swoops down for the snatch/kill quick press of C5 for 30FPS is handy)

Problem for me, with birding, is I use multiple [Focus Area] types each on different back buttons. Birds flying in the open sky is easy for [Wide] mode. When it swoops low into a busy environment or blocked by grass/branches etc a custom or small spot mode is better. While following my target reaching my hand up to twist a knob is too slow and risk losing framing esp with long focal lengths.

I think with the restrictions that Sony put in there, all we can do is to be more predictive on what might happen next. It's always better safe than sorry so when I know I'm shooting flying birds or birds ready to take off/prey, I'd be switching to 30fps in advance.

Another thing is that 1TB cards are not that expensive now (i got mine at around 500USD from China) so you can just get two of those.

They aren't as expensive as they used to be but coming from $35-40 USD 512GB cards they still seem pricey.

Sony 960GB CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Card is only $498 USD now, but I bought a couple of OWC Atlas Pro 480GB for $160/ea when it was on sale.

However, it isn't just about memory space, it is also about culling through so many images when 30FPS isn't needed. Birds aren't always moving fast so leaving it at 30FPS means lots of images for situations where just 5FPS is enough.

I've been experimenting with a new button configuration that doesn't use recall custom hold buttons. Not as fast changing settings so I'll have to rely more on muscle memory to quickly switch or predict in advance. This way I can utilize the C5 speed boost button.
