Bibble crahes whenever I open a vertical "portrait" format photo. No issue opening a landscape format photo. Has anyone had similar issue? How was it "fixed". Thanks.

Henry,

The solution appears to be simple. You can process Pete's landscape shots and you can send him all of your portraits. Life is so much simpler than we make it out to be :)

Sorry but I couldn't resist. I wish I had a solution but Bibble crashed my Windows 2000 machine in more ways than I could count so...no more Bibble.
Best regards,
John Mitchell

If Bibble crashes your Win2000 machine then you have problems with hardware more than software. You should never have your machine
crashed by any software unless there is hardware problem.
More likely it is your video card. Bibble is very heavy on not using video
that is right not using video drivers to run.

So what? Even if it leaves a lot of info it should not effect the rest of the system. A lot of software do exactly that, leave info in the registry.
But it does not mean that your system will crash.

I notice that Bibble crashes (not my machine) when I attepmt to close the program when in thumbnail mode. If I close the thumbnail window, then Bibble - all is OK.

Sorry, I have no relation to the topic starter's problems.

Eugene,

You very well might be correct. A computer expert I'm not. My current computer is the most stable machine I've ever run. Since having it built last winter, I've experienced no problems at all when runnning many diferent applications and installing different hardware......until the new Bibble !! After installing it and processing a few Nef's, it crashed. That's okay but after rebooting, both versions of Photoshop that I have installed would not open. Several other programs wouldn't work including Microsoft Word for some reason. I uninstalled Bibble but things were still screwed up. Fortunately I use Drive Image and had just made a backup of my system. As another poster said, Bibble left little reminders all over the registry. Anyway, I used Drive Image and restored the system and all was well.

As I said, it very well could be a hardware issue but it's not an issue that I had time to deal with. My work flow is NC2 to Photoshop and I'll stick with it. I used Bibble when it first came out with the first D1's and thought I'd give the newest version a try. For me, it's just not worth the aggravation to see if the bugs are fixed...and I hope they are. Eric's program was awesome 2years ago when Nikon want $500 for Capture 1 and I used it until NC2 came out. Perhaps I'll try it again sometime down the road but I'll have to make sure that I can afford some down time and also have a bottle of Cuban rum close at hand just in case it blows things out of whack again :)
Thanks for the advice and as always, nice hearing from you.

Try to change resolution of your video card to something like 1024x768
Run Bibble, use all of the functions.
Change resolution back to what it was.
Maybe it will help.

Well if you read his last message on his web site he is coming out with a new version which supposed to teke care of all the problems.
Should be out by now but he is always late.
I had a lot of problems with Bibble but it never crashed my system.
It just quietly exits when it crashes. No reboots needed.

Bibble also doesn't reset the default file associations so your other viewing/editing applications no longer respond. The image files still appear to belong to Bibble though it has been removed. Cleaning up a registry sits next to cleaning a CCD in terms of fragility - not difficult but easy to screw up if you don't know what to do. Most of the applications I've installed/removed are better about this.
