Last three times I use my s2 tethered to my computer, the batteries seem to dye after 30 to 50 shots. I tried using three differrent sets of NIMHs and Alkalines. The last time, it took 12 brand new duracells ultras to get 50 Raw files. Took the camera to Fuji and they said nothing is wrong with it. Manual say you should be able to get up to 400 shots per NIMHs.

I have reloaded the camera shooting software and this does not help. I should mention, that I do not use CR123's, but this shouldn't matter, I have not used them for the past two years and everything was fine.

Alkalines do not work well in high-drain devices. So, you will get far, far fewer shots with alkalines. They are only for emergency use.

So, you have essentially 3 options when looking at power. 1 is your camera. Is your LCD screen draining the batteries? The screen sucks power if left on for extended periods.

Next up to look at are your batteries. All it takes is one bad cell, particularly if your chargers charges batteries in pairs.

Finally, the last thing to look at is your charger. If your charger isn't working well, it might not be topping off the batteries properly. It might be screwing up on just one cell. It might only charge in pairs, which is bad, because one bad battery will screw up the other battery that it's paired with.

So, those are my suggestions. Finally, although you don't use CR123s, you really should. The CR123s will give you longer life out of your rechargeable AAs.

-Anthony is right on....i had the same problem....i had a couple of bad batteries and it drove me nuts...some chargers charge 2 at a time which in my opinion is no good. good charger la crosse bc-900 v33 charges and checks each cell.

If shooting tethered why not use the AC adapter? When tethered the camera is on all the time (no sleep) which will drain batteries more quickly.

Also, as others have said, only use high amp hr Nimh rechargables (2500mah or better) to get longer life.
