Backup from SD card >external SSD using an Android

Hey everyone,

I want to transfer my photos from the SD card to an external SSD using an Android device while hiking with no internet coverage.

Can anyone recommend a fast and reliable hub with the following specifications:

- 1 Type-A port

- 2 Type C ports (if they are female, I will need an extra cable)

Are you copying photos from camera to phone using Bluetooth or WiFi? If so, once you get them copied over, plug one of those dual-ended USB-A/USB-C thumbdrives into your phone and copy the pictures to that. I think Best Buy has a 1-terabyte SanDisk dual drive for $99.

Not sure what your asking. Generally I find strait to pc with USB cord is best for backups. Or remove the SD card and transfer as usual. But android is tricky. Hard to find the locations of photos for one.

My hiking set up is as follows:

Samsung Galaxy A53 5g phone

Kiwibird card reader/USB hub (USBC to connect to phone, plus 1 USBA socket, card readers for SD & micro SD)

256gb pen drive (but SSD would probably work too)

All part of this kit that I keep in my backpack.

There's a lot of variety in what different model SSDs and phones support, need to sort that out. My phone supports ordinary Android OTG ("On the Go") for USB connection of peripherals, so owning one of these USB C male to Type A femaie connectors , simply plugging a thumb drive into Type A will connect nicely to USB C on the phone. That's what I'd do for super-lightweight external storage if wanted, with as large or as many thumb drives as needed.

I tried plugging a Western Digital Passport external drive (proprietary port and its Type A male cable) into the same connector and all that happens is the phone begins charging / activating the drive without any data transfer connection. Obviously a limitation of that SSD. No idea if there's a connector appropriate to the OP's plan.
