It's also true that Canon will generally fix your grey-market stuff, with a sales receipt. But ... they don't have to; that's the critical point.

Of course, I've purchased ten Canon bodies and dozens of lenses since 1999, and have had to send in zero for warranty work. (I do send in bodies for new shutters, etc.)

I don't even know if we shall believe they took orders (at least from public), perhaps they only took orders from the GSA or corporations...
We will never know....
And I can't find any other place in NYC...

I get tired of the run around from them sometimes.

If it's the best information we have from Canon USA at the moment, it's not a runaround.

It seems there is no pattern on how many stores get.

Hence the limited information available from retailers.
