Autofocus: what am I doing wrong?

I got a X100VI a few months ago and I have become slowly more frustrated with the autofocus. Here is a video of my trying to focus on a subject in broad daylight: . This is just one example - this has started happening on a daily basis

I know Fujifilm isn’t industry leading but this feels egregiously bad. I use AF-S (I’ve heard it’s worse with AF-C). I’ve tried single point and zone.

I’ve previously owned the X-E4 and X-T4 and, while not perfect, have had a higher hit rate for focus.

Does anyone else have this experience? If so, has anyone been able to get better results?
Is there any improvement when the camera is held in landscape orientation? Give it a quick test and see (make sure AF boost mode is on)

I use AFC with no issue FWIW

Just following up – I wasn’t able to get it working so I finally just sent it back to Fuji to get it inspected and fixed.

and great news – so far so good! The work order seems to suggest they reassembled the lens ring. I’ll have to give it some more intense usage but I think that might’ve been it. Thanks for the suggestion of sending it in!

New update: my previous update was premature, and I had my problem come back and more often than before.

I realized my aperture wasn't working and that it was the root of a lot of the issues. So, I sent it in, they replaced my whole lens and now I can (more confidently) say that the issue was fixed.
