I just wonder, is there a way to have my A7C2 write the 'correct' corresponding focal lenght when using APS-C? I like to see at what FL I take pictures, to decide which one I use most. As of now, for example, I have the 24-50 (just got it) and figured using APS-C mode would be a good work-around to get to 75mm (with a bit less resolution). When I take pictures in APS-C mode, the reported EXIF file show 50mm though, and not 75mm. I understand that'ss because APS-C mode is essentially just an in-camera-crop but I wonder if there's a setting to override this so the 'correct' FL is written to the EXIF. Or maybe some way to determine if a picture was taken using APS-C mode in LR.

The correct focal length is the physical focal length. What changes when alternating between FF and aps-c is the field of view, not the focal length.

Do you calculate equivalent focal length every time you crop a file at post processing? Probably not. But why not, if equivalent focal length is of that much interest?

Then just recalculate yourself. You made it here!

That information -is- actually recorded in the EXIF data, but most photo editing tools don't display it by default. Lightroom can show it if you set it to show all the EXIF data. I'm not sure about other applications, but imagine some can do it.

Here's how it looks in Lightroom...

Like Mike said, it's in the EXIF data, so you can see it, but Lightroom defaults to not showing it. I usually just go by whether the photo is 6.2k or 9.5k if I'm interested enough to figure out the focal length.

yeah thx. curiously, I checked pics I took with my A7III + A7IV with the Tamron 28-75 and it turns out about 45% are at 28mm and 45% at 75mm, rest is a bit of a mix. gives a good indication what FL I usually use. so far, the 24-50/2.8 suits me fine but will look into a larger zoom or prime in the future. also considering the 40/2.5 for compactness.
