Aperture's Color Space

Meaning to say that I have full control over colour management using a PC, Nikon Capture, Adobe PS and custom profiles made for individual papers.

For the life of me I can't see the benifit of using Apple.

As most users of computers use the internet, and most of them use MS's browsers, what's wrong with that? What is Apple's version of explorer?
 
everything, and for quite some time.

It even supports CMYK in printer drivers, and have native PostScript. It allows to choose desired CMM easily, use it system-wide, and even write your own CMM :)

And a RIP for the PC does the same.

Can you give me one other benifit Julia?

Apart from the fact that your a Mac fanatic?

Less concern about viruses and spyware

Apple provides Safari. Then there is Firefox, Camino, and I think one other I can't recall. MS Internet Exploder runs on OS X, but I think MS has discontinued development on it.
 
Ok Julia or Thom .... or any other poster with experience, It seems to me these days to be more a limitation of hardware than anything else .

Our digicams seem to have quite limited colour spaces derived from the CCD/CMOS and in the Bayer design its all a lie anyway. Yet we manage to fake this notion of colour only to import it into an environment designed only to show 8 bit colour. ( yea im a PC person blush )

The discussion here seems to be about ACR and Aperture and how wide a space they offer ..... I suggest that we might need a new graphics system and monitors before we are truly able to manage the offerings of wide colour space HDR images.

Please would one of the boffins expand on this ................

Years ago we worked out that if you shot a 5" -4" transparency right up to its limits for that light box moment , all you would do was make a luminance range that most printers and printing processes could get no where near !

Say's it all really.... Lets be frank that Firefox is used by PC users who choice not to use IE.

Apple tried to save their asses with the Ipod, which has worked out well for them.

On the computer front.. there f* ked.

I for one.. a PC user bought the 23"ACD... but that's where it stops.

I see no need or benifit for the Mac over a PC.

i was curious if thom had a take on the following: i could be wrong, but i don't think apple makes a habit of allowing demo software downloads. i think for something of this reasonable complexity, one will need at least a few weeks of playing around with aperture to really get the feel of it. i guess one could take a seminar, but still i think it would be reasonable to expect that one could fiddle with this at home or in one's studio before making the financial commitment.

the dispute on internal color space is going in wrong direction. Objecting to their choice is similar to objecting the use of 20-bit integers in ACR, or floating point in Aperture. HDR space is nothing more then to keep raw data intact while processing, and allow extreme editing moves.

What's your point? You asked about browsers on the Mac. I listed the ones that came to mind.

I was watching PC Magazine's "Digital Duo" on PBS the other night. They were talking about the pros and cons of Windows vs. Mac. They had positive and negative things to say about both sides. On comment that caught my attention was that they said people were moving from Windows to Mac, but no one was going the other way. Their analysis, not mine.
