There's a few of us who might disagree...Use that at work and it's crap. It's not a viable replacement for Office.
Odd, mine doesn't behave that way. It takes no more than a second or two to open a program on my Macbook.I was on macrumors reading around and a bunch of users there were talking about how there is a lag when you open a program etc. I said nah, no way. I went to staples today and tried 4 Macs, 13 and 15 in air, 14 pro and 24 in imac. Plus a bunch of windows systems to compare. Those users were right. Opening any program there was a considerable lag. Opening the comparable software on the windows systems were basically instant. Once open the Mac was Swift but the wait for it to do anything is a deal breaker.
Feel free to disagree, it doesn't make the software any better. There's a few of us who might disagree...Use that at work and it's crap. It's not a viable replacement for Office.
It don't take my systems ANY time to open stuff. that's the point. Like I said, there is an obvious lag in the time you hit the icon until something happens. Once happening ,the M series are quick. It could be the OS, and the new one will have a better reaction time. I am still teetering on the fence. Just waiting for the M3 releases to see what I am going to do. I am smitten with the midnight 13 air, but I am wondering will the release the new pros in something like that shade. If not, A maxed out air would suffice I think.Odd, mine doesn't behave that way. I would say you will get another 5 years of support for your M1 mini. That is the one thing that I like with Microsoft, the longevity of my investments. After the release of the new windows 11 update etc. yesterday, I am 100 percent moving to mac. AI driven OS with no choice to remove is not going to fly with me. Mr Cloud destroyed the MS I once loved and enjoyed. Timmy and Co. have a much more palatable option for OS right now.Unfortunately, Apple is upgrading the operating systems every year and obsoleting perfectly capable machines. It is sad that my Mini MI will soon be put out of service, not because it doesn't work well, but it won't get the necessary security upgrades. And we can expect continued dumb-ing down of traditional OSes to smart phone-like interfaces.
Sure, some of us are naive, but it is clear to me (38 years on the Mac) has Apple has control of the OS as, I assume, more people are using Macs.
The "skip" info is hidden under the video - I didn't get as far as 18:50 - should have heeded your warning to not watch - although there are other video creators who are more annoyingI am just going to circle back to the "speed" thing a min. One of the best Mac based youtubers, Quinn (aka. Snazzylabs) spent a week with windows. No he is not moving to windows full time because the apps/software he uses is not available on windows, but have a listen to what he says about the speed of windows compared to MacOS.
WARNING TO THE VIDEO HATERS: DON'T watch. peace.

No idea what he's talking about. W10 doesn't seem faster to me. Almost everything on M1/M2 seems to happen instantly. Whereas W10 drags. We have a rejected LG Gram running W11, which I'll try for a while, to see if I agree.I am just going to circle back to the "speed" thing a min. One of the best Mac based youtubers, Quinn (aka. Out of all the apple centric creators, Quinn is the best. Most just blow smoke up apples behind. I have to admit, if I were to go with a PC, he has sold me on that model, the Stealth PC. I am working on the presumption that he is being objective and accurate in his description of all he said.Have a listen to what he says about the speed of windows compared to MacOS. I am of the I can upgrade my hardware myself group. That is the one thing I don't like about mac. The lack of snap windows, easy closing of software, and what not is another. What I do like, is the polish on the OS and hardware. I goto the source here, play with a bunch of notebooks, and then goto the macs, the macs do feel SOOOO much better. As Quinn has mentioned, the apps on Mac are so polished and modern. The instant speed of my windows systems is something I would miss, as well as being able to buy a notebook at 999, toss in a 2tb ssd for 189 dollars, and 64gb of ram for 279 dollars. This is exactly what I did with my system. My desktop is even more powerful.I have to admit, if I were to go with a PC, he has sold me on that model, the Stealth PC. But, there are big differences and problems as well as benefits.
1. Just to get an interface to work properly, you have to go through (what seems to be a rather complicated process) to not be victimized by advertisements windows and update reminders.
2. The ability to update RAM and Storage is big and too bad for a Mac user who finds their RAM not significant or SSD needs exceeding what they purchased, Mac users must be aware of future proofing their original purchase.
3. The speed of tasks is not necessarily in Mac's favor for certain areas. (at least for this Stealth model) The sense of immediate responsiveness seems to favor a windows machine. Perhaps that led to your comment, "blowing smoke up apple's behind."
But at a rather large energy expenditure. Over 100 Watts or close for gaming.
4. The OS ( IMO) favors Macs. Security updates and general upgrade have not been problematic and address what needs tome addressed for users.
5. ??? So, what am I missing that (you think) would be what would make PC use a better choice???
Despite it being Top Rated on notebookcheck, I would not buy this MSI Stealth 16 because of "high case temperatures" (bad in summertime) and "loud under load" (always bad).3. The Asus Strix 17 my daughter purchased seems better for home use, despite lower ratings.
I posted about it in PC Talk. I don't want to further discuss PC laptops in a Mac forum. How long has your daughter had the strix?Asus Strix 17 my daughter purchased seems better for home use, despite lower ratings.
No it won't. I'm just curious how long she had it and if she had any issues. That's all.I posted about it in PC Talk.
