Anyone have a portable viewer?

I went with an Epson P3000 last year. I looked at several alternatives but those with larger screens had lower resolution that was very noticeable. I have been very pleased with it as a back up device and it is a really easy to use as a viewer as well. It is a whole lot easier to bring (all pics) along to an event than lugging the equivalent number of photo albums. Can't say enough good about it & highly recommend it for storage & viewing.

Here is my thinking, when viewing photographs or having prints made, 4 X 6 seems to be a good size, 3.5 X 5 seems small after viewing 4 X 6. With that in mind, a Viewer @ anything smaller than 4 X 6 would not be perfect as a replacement for viewing photo albums.. the price of 400 or 500 dollars for this viewer seems very high, Something under 200 would be great If Sont can make this perfect size screen, High resolution DVD player and sell it for 179, a few card slots or a means to hook up my A700 camera to it should not be too much of an added expense to manufacture. Still have not heard back from Sony.. Ill have to contact Sony USA I guess.

Bill, while that is a nice thought it's not reality. The Sony DVD player doesn't have that ability. Someday maybe, but no sign of it now and for people that might want it in the near future it's useless. The thing it doesn't have that I would want is memory: Memory to download photos, memory to bring along music and other things, and memory to bring along past photos to share with others. It falls well short IMO. It would be interesting to see what Sony says about it though. Hey, how about Minolta. Could they make one? If Epson does I don’t know why Minolta can't. Wouldn't that be fun to have some new equipment with the Minolta name on it. (Just thinking out loud).--

I just Contacted Sony America... as far as memory goes, having a hard drive will increase the price dramatically. Many here just want a viewer.. as far as storage, if you burn a DVD with pphotos or have DVD photo back up, this player as it stands will show and display jpegs. 1000's at a time. this player will play all your music as it stands now, it does have video input so it will accept incoming signals.. so if you could plug in your A700 or other Alpha camera to this device, it will do everything but store and all for 179 dollars.. I also contacted Sony Technical support to find out of there was a way to hook up my A700 to this video input connection.

This is an 8 inch diag screen perfect for viewing DVD movies on a plane or listen to music, or show off your DVD jpegs when traviling to relatives house. AS many will attest, 8 inches is much better than 4,.... size does matter.

I got a promotional email from ViewSonic just this morning on deals for various Photo Frames, including this one:

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/digitalphotoframe/DPX802/#specs

It has a large screen (8" frame with 6.5" viewing area); battery for portability; CF card slot and USB port; decent price tag of $US 113. What's missing? Or go with the bigger frame $US 160 for 10" frame with 8.7" viewing area.

I would prefer to view directly from the CF card, and this description implies that the pics. would have to be copied from the card.

What do you all think of it? Bill?

As an aside, I'm very happy with the two ViewSonic LCD monitors that I've bought.

My wife has several of these photo frames.. I am not sure of the compatability.. I think her's ony are for SD cards...

I contacted Sony three days ago about this issue they said someone would get back to me in three days... but we did have the weekend..

'I also sent an email to Sony America head quarters.. and One to Sony Ammerica sales.

and One to Sony Technical.. I said i wanted to hook my A700 up mto something to view the photos on a Larger screen in the field, and KNow that the FX820 as a video input and is there a way to hook the A700 or an alph camera through that input.
Ive heard nothing as yet...

Thats a Nice find Carol.. but I would like to find something designed for the field, something with a lid, 6 to 8 inch screen, with enough battery for extended use. I dont need storage because that turns this viewer into a laptop and increases the cost dramatically. It also increases the over all size. I would like to keep it under 200 dollars.
