Don't take the criticism too personal. This forum is famous for its winers and gearheads. We don't discus art here; we discus autofocus problems.

I think I'll try to keep it down to just half the internet. ;)
That's a pity. I was really curious after the comments at the 'bucket' site. Maybe I might find it someday on the 'other half'.

Hi. Nice to meet you! I think you did great! See my post above.

That was some presentation and it would be great if you could share how you went about putting it all together.

I bet you didn't expect this kind of exposure/interest! :)
Hello.

Thanks for the compliments and criticisms. It was a labor of love;
this was my first wedding and I wanted to get across the feeling of
the wedding (it started out quiet but ended up being just a great
party).

As far as my photography being as "amateurish" as some of you say,
the family was blown away and that's all that matters to me. They
cried, they screamed with delight, they jumped up and down. The
bride told me it was exactly what she wanted - she wanted a very
photojournalistic approach and that's what I gave her. She didn't
even know I was there, which I took as a great compliment.

And btw, I don't like color tinting/desat masks either, but when I
met with the bride, she specifically requested it. She commented
during the show how much she liked it.

And I'd really like to know how to avoid having people's backs to
the camera when they're dancing - do I ask everyone to turn around
and stop dancing so I can take a picture?

Anyway, I appreciate Carlos' offer to host the slideshow but I
think I will pass - I didn't anticipate this level of interest and
I think I'll try to keep it down to just half the internet. ;)

We are here to discuss ALL aspects of photography. (technically just the 10D... but then we wouldn't be talking about photos much either)

I'm facinated by how she was able to push a slideshow application beyond it's normal limits. It is a fantastic example of thinking outside the box. It just goes to show how far presentation can take photos which on their own may not merit the best evaluations.
The photographer is clearly an enthusiastic beginner, and don't
doubt that she made her friends and family very happy. The music
theme is fun and the idea is nice.

But to call it "art"??! Really, it's just another slideshow.

On a personal level I'm sure everybody was very touched - but on a
professsional level her shots would never hold up. They are really
quite amateurish. If I hade hired a photographer to document MY
wedding, I would have been seriously disappointed if these shots
were what I got.

That said, her enthusiasm goes a long way and I'm sure she will
improve along the way.

But I can't believe the initial hoopla on this board about
"stunning" pictures.. No way.

Pottan
It's the way it was presented! The photos and the songs together
made the mood and it appears that she made the bride, groom,
family, & friends very, very happy!

It's not about how well the photos look, it's not about how the
song blens, it's all about how she made both work and made it into
an ART!

You got something better...show it! Else give it a break!

What would be more constructive would be to discuss how she could
have improved, how she did what she did, and share with other
"YOUR" ideas for improvement or give examples.

Bottom line: I liked it very much!!!

If it don't fit, don't force it. Just relax and let it go.

It's got to be floating around out there somewhere. If someone would just post the name of the original slideshow, such as wedding_slideshow.exe, or whatever it is, I'm sure I can find it. Just the name of the file, please.

yeah double clicking only asks me to choose an application to open it in which usually means I don't have the right app to view the file...maybe I can try it on a PC somewhere else.
Well, if anyone's interested and has no limit on email size I can
forward it.

I'm really sorry the link doesn't work. Her shots are unbelievable!
Yes, I realize I'm shouting but here is a link to a 40 meg
download. Yes, it's big. Yes, it's totally worth it. This is
this gal's first or second wedding with the 10d and what she did
with this slideshow is just...well, see for yourself:

http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=597086

You'll need the sound on, but be careful because the song volume
rises and falls. Almost woke up the little one today while playing
it!!

-Steph, who has yet to drop my 10d.

Does anyone know the legal aspects to distributing slideshow videos with popular songs? Karyn, how did you handle this?

I notice there are a lot of videographers that get songs to put on their videos. One example is videomadness.com.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Carlo - it was from her own personal CD.

Thank you, Drew!
It was done in layers in photoshop and then just put together in Pics2Exe.

You're a neighbor! I'm in Snohomish county and was just in Bremerton for 3 days last week.

Too bad, I was dying to see it, but apparently, Karyn doesn't want to share it anymore...

Thanks for the response. Just also wondering, if she were to order another copy of the slideshow, will she have to buy another copy of the cd, or maybe get a 99 cent song in iTunes?

This has always been a question in my mind, and I've created a number of videos.

Why? Why do you need to download it when I've taken it off my website and declined the offer to have it hosted on another site?

I saw it a couple days ago and wanted my wife to see it since it was so good. Unfortunately we missed it by a couple hours after you took it down. I hope you put it back sometime soon. It was terrific.

Hi Karynsig,

I've been following this thread and have also been eager to see this slideshow that (almost) everyone has been raving about. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to download it before you elected to remove it and refused to allow anyone else to host it. That is of course your right. However, I would like to know why you give free access to your work and then when it proves popular you deny anyone any further access? I really don't understand your reason for this about face. Have you actually stated a reason, if so I must have missed it.

There must be many people out there, who, like myself visit these forums to advance our knowledge in the art of photography. I've learnt a lot (I hope) from seeing the work that others have kindly supplied. Had they not done so I'm sure my enthusiasm for this hobby would be gone.

I'm glad that your clients are so happy with your work. Even though I haven't seen it I'm sure you deserve high praise... well done!

Regards,

Rob

Rob,

The reason I initially elected to take it off of my website was because of bandwidth issues. It was hosted on my business website, and within the first day of the month my site was shut down by my host because my bandwidth allotment had exceeded.

Also, the free access issue...I posted it on 3 forums I am a very regular poster on. One, the forum that this was linked to, is where I've been a regular on since way before I got into doing photography as a business. I consider many of them there to be friends, and posted it to show what I'd done as they wanted to know how my first wedding went. One of the members there posted it here without my knowledge. I didn't ask her to post it here, nor did I really want it posted...we've corresponded over email and things are clarified and everything is peachy keen...but the fact that it made it here, where I had never posted before, made me aware of the fact that it could be continued to be posted on other messageboards...and I wouldn't always be necessarily as lucky as I was here, where bunnylady made it clear that it wasn't hers. How am I to know that someone else wouldn't claim it as theirs?

Bottom line, I removed the file from my website because I didn't want it getting out of my control. I realize that it was, already, to a certain extent, but I limited as much as I could.

Karyn,

You are very welcome but I should be the one thanking you for the generous slidshow. I did one myself (some other program) but not as good as yours.

BTW, I looked at Pics2Exe and read about it sometime ago too. I believe it's not the easiest program to work with; yet you did a wonderful job!

Snohomish is not that far away and I bet there's great photo opportunities!

Bremerton? I'm just an hour away. It would've been so cool to talk to you.

BTW, there's a group forming at Fredmiranda.

See:

Sheesh! I'm not wanting to bash it like others have, just wanted to see what all the buzz was about. My point is, there's a ton of those things circulating out there now because so many have downloaded it, and somewhere, it resides on another server. All someone has to do is post it on a server. That's what happens when you offer it to people to download. It doesn't matter if you want them to see it or not, as long as you let one person download it, thousands more will have eventual access to it. Laws of cyberspace. If you originally posted it on a public gallery server for others to see, why wouldn't you want them to see it now? Sorry, just a little grumbled that people won't cooperate and just give the name of the original .exe file!! Guess all photographers here, no computer people.

Seriously, I heard it was an outstanding slideshow and I just wanted to see it for myself, that's all. Sorry if you don't want people to see it anymore. Shame....
