adobe CS and spyware

my husband came across this post on the rec.video.desktop
newsgroup-had never come across this before.

post says :
If you've bought Photoshop CS and have noticed a new service
called "Adobe LM Service", this is Macrovision SafeCast spyware.

This spyware cannot be disabled. When the startup type in WinXP
or Windows 2000 is set to "disabled", SafeCast re-enables itself the
next time Photoshop is started.

Just an FYI for anyone considering upgrading. Adobe has finally
fallen over the edge.

the machine it's installed on, and will refuse to load the application

Copy a generic .txt file in the Adobe system shared/service directory, delete the Adobelmsvc.exe file and rename the .txt file accordingly.

Then open the former .txt file properties and select "read only" and "hidden". Then select the "protection" tab and negate the authorisation to all the listed users (also under the "advanced" button.

Start CS and get back to the above directory. You will find a MS dos link pointing to the dummy file.

Should work.

probably won't stick.

I see there's more problems being reported with 'activation' in the PC Tools forum. Maybe someone here can help?
