How do I go about this? I've seen many people with really nice looking "Frames" around their photo's and I would greatly appreciate any help on how to make them!

Also, is there a way I can crop using a 4x6 ratio box? ie - crop to a certain size but still having a ratio the same as a 4x6 photo?

PS has a number of frame actions ,have a look in your action pallette.

for cropping fixed aspect ratio, you can use the rectangular marquee tool, style---fixed aspect ratio---6height 4width (or the other way around) then --Image---crop.

Ok, got the aspect ratio done, thanks for that!

But as for frames... what is my action pallette? sorry, bit of a noob here...

Ahh, thanks Brian.

Ok, now that I have that up, i've looked around in there, but not sure how to go about making the frame from there?

Sorry - I should have finished it!

Click on the effect you want in the Actions Pallette, then click the 'Play' button - the triangle - at the bottom of the pallette. Alternatively, click on 'Button Mode' in the actions menu, then you only have to click on the appropiate button.

The only way I get the "Play" button available is when I click on "new action" but then when I press play, nothing happens...

I have the same original question of this thread. Frank, I have seen (and tried) the few frames avail in PS CS but was wondering if there were a web site of some sort where one could download a wider variety of frames.

Actually, some of the frames in PS CS don't work for me (I get error messages saying some tools aren't avail). I suspect that the problem is somewhere between the chair and the keyboard... Maybe there is a condition that has to be respected before launching the action?

Thanks.

If you do an "all forums" search on this site using "frame actions" you will find many links there, you will also find the real experts on actions,I am running PS7 and do not have any problems with the frame actions ,I am sure someone with CS knowledge will join in if you mention specific problems.Playing around by making your own frames (and actions) is a good way to find out the tricks of PS,Good luck.

Ok, this is what I've been doing... (probably WAY wrong...)

Window -> Actions
Actions box opens.
Pressed the play button up top right hand corner to get frames.atn
Now I've tried clicking on the left boxes to get the tick (nothing happens)

Tried clicking on the box next the the "tick" box the toggle dialogue box(nothing happens)

Clicked the "create new action" box, now the "play/record/stop" buttons are available.
Tried clicking on those in different sequences (nothing happens)

So what am I not doing, or doing wrong?

Click on the NAME of the frame you want, the box will turn blue, then go to the bottom of the actions pallette and click the start button (arrow)
Clicked the "create new action" box,
This is when you make your own actions

This site has a bunch of different frames actions available...all kinds.

I've written three or four different sets for PS7...they also work in PSCS but need to be modified for CS2...they still work but take more interaction in CS2

here is the site:
http://www.atncentral.com/

this link goes directly to the frames area:
http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm#Frames
my latest are the EzMiter frames
here is a picture of one with a matte:

there are about ten different types of wood/metal and mattes

Also, I leave the photo unflattened so that you can adjust the bevel of the frame and the color of the matte...you can also change the color/saturation/lightness..darkness of the wood......and the frame is put on a duplicate image so that your original is undisturbed.
