A9 Banding Sighting

I guess we have known that A9's electrical shutter might cause banding issues when shooting at a very fast shutter speed under certain frequency of LED lighting.

I think that is what happened here. All the images with banding issues he showed were shot at 1/4000, 1/5000, or 1/8000. I am wondering whether similar issues can be found if using shutter speed of 1/1000-1/2000.

Do you necessarily have to shoot that fast for a soccer game? The Canon and Nikon images he showed later in his video actually were all shot at much slower shutter speed.
1/1000 is usually fast enough for American football. I/1250 tops. At least that is my experience.
Yeah that guy is either has no experiences in sport photography and no idea of shutter speed, or deliberately faulting a camera. 1/4000, kidding me, that even far exceeds shutter speed needed to take photos on jet planes.

I'm starting to think that no one actually watched the video.
It is pretty tedious to watch, so you could certainly be forgiven for leaping to that conclusion : )
He has a sample from both Canon and Nikon for comparison at the end.
Purportedly for comparison, but taken at different shutter speeds and under different conditions, no?
He also talks about going back through all of his Nikon D5 shots to specifically check for banding - but found none.
Unless taken at the same settings (esp. shutter speed), time and location/lighting, they don't really provide a valid point of reference.
Also - while true that the banding will not show up with the mechanical shutter...at 5fps, the a9 doesn't stack up so well against it's competitors. Take away the 20fps ES, and you have an a7III (at least what I hope the a7III will be).
True, as far as it goes.

However it's also true that you can produce banding with Canon and Nikon cameras if you go out of your way to do so. Hard to say, really, whether the a9 is going to be any more prone to banding than its competitors, based on this report.

If there were an effort to make controlled/meaningful like-to-like comparisons across systems, or to evaluate the actual likelihood of encountering banding issues with the a9 as against its competitors (eg with photos taken at realistic/appropriate shutter speeds, for example) your point might carry more weight. ; )

This guy made the "wind-tunnel test" with the A9. Do you think if I give a @#@ to what he sais now?

I can imagine that the e-shutter can be "cheated" in certain situations, but so far I haven`t experienced it myself.

I don't understand the need of the OP to be so "acidic" about a honest report from a person that actually uses the camera in demanding conditions, and went to the troubles of supplying Raw files...

Anyway, seems like the mystery is solved.

It wasn't intended to be acidic. I was just poking fun. I do not know this Fro guy or especially care about his review but I do like how that guy pronounces his website address and his review seemed fine at least the few minutes I saw. Also he got me to look around his site for a bit so he's doing something right. He's upfront about when he's being sponsored (sqaurespace) so I give him credit there too.

I do find the entire freak out that surrounds the release of certain new cameras bizzare. I spend time at the Canon forums and people went nuts when the 5DMKIV came out but the A9 really pushed some buttons. Especially it seems among people that don't shoot Sony or that have zero interest in purchasing any of A9, 1DXMKII or D5. People like to argue over equipment. There are worse vices.
