A7RV Is there a way to recall or "reset" Shutter or Aperture Modes settings?

New to A7RV. I've actually spent many, many hours reading postings and watching videos to understand a myriad of setting choices and how to use Shooting mode C1, 2, 3 and M1, M2, M3, M4. I plan to use C1 and C2 for Landscape and Action. C3 will be variable loading from M1-M4 depending on my other less frequent shooting situations (Landscape Tripod, Steet, Portrait, and Macro [Thank you Mark Galer for a starting point]. All well and good, except...

For Shutter and Aperture modes, setup seems to be fluid while I'll keep my custom button settings constant. I know when I turn the camera on in those modes or switch to those modes, I'll have the last used settings. My concern is that I changed a rarely modified setting last time and forgot about it which will have a negative impact on this shooting set.

From everything I've found, that is just the way it is. Am I missing some technique to avoid forgotten and unwanted setting changes?

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a save/recall for Shutter and Aperture modes?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question but maybe this will help:

Yes, when you "turn the camera on in those modes" you'll "have the last used settings".

But when you switch into C1, C2, or C3 mode, the camera returns to whatever is originally saved for that mode, it doesn't retain settings you may have previously made the last time you were in the mode.

My practice is to switch away from the mode and back (e.g C1 -> C2 -> C1) to make sure any modified settings I may have made are reset.

I'd be wary of using the M1 to M4 settings, because those are stored on the memory card, and as such can get wiped if you format the card (which I do at the start of a shoot).

When you rotate the dial into one of the three custom modes, it sets a myriad of settings to what was recorded in the mode. You are then at liberty to change things - you could change the aperture, shutter speed, focus area, and so on. Turn the camera off and on again, and those changes are still present. Simple answer - rotate the dial away and back, and everything is restored to the settings recorded in that location. I like that it works this way.

Do you set up the camera for each of these 9 settings (3x stills, 3x video and 3x video Q&S), and then store these settings?

When the settings are stored - they are stored in-camera - the camera will be reset to the stored values each time you access C1, 2 or 3 mode. Every change you make when you are in one mode will be reset when you leave and return to this mode.
and M1, M2, M3, M4.
As other have said, be aware that these settings are stored on the memory card, so I don't use them at all.

No, you will have the camera reset to your stored settings.

I find this extremely convenient, especially when doing hybrid work. Then I know for sure that the basic settings I have stored for different types of stills photography and video work are correct. Then I am sure that important settings like file quality, picture profile, white balance, video quality and the myriad of other settings are correct, no matter if I am doing stills or video.

So far I've only been setting up for pictures. C1 Landscape. C2 Action. C3 I plan to load from the M settings. M1 Landscape Tripod. M2 Street. M3 Portrait. M4 Macro. On the other card, presuming there is M1-4 on each card, M1 Time Lapse, M2 night sky, M3 Telescope. But I'm only doing Landscape and Action so far and may consider the others in the future. In Movie mode I'll setup C1 for movies.

As I become more familiar with the camera and settings, I may not need the M configurations. I've documented my settings in a spreadsheet to keep track and help memorize.

I rarely format a memory card. After copying pictures to my computer and other multiple backups I delete pictures. I will copy the M settings to my computer.

I was thinking of the Shutter and Aperture mode dial settings when I commented about returning to the mode and having the last changes still present.

I think I have my C1 Landscape and C2 Action settings almost complete. Buttons and dials mostly complete. Next is the FN choices and then My Menu.

And the most critical part is going out and using the camera and various settings to understand and memorize how it all works!
