Hello

I have the Godox TT350 (S) and a FlashQ M20 Sony TTL. These both worked fine on my RX1RM2. They will work sometimes on my A7CR but it's very inconsistent. And the menu doesn't show external flash options as if it's not attached.

I took some photos yesterday of my kids and girl friends for Home Coming. I used TTL and HSS in order to use higher Shutter Speeds to cut light. This photos EXIF data, shows SS 1/2000, and says Flash on, but did not see return light?

No matter how low the shutter speed or even in just TTL the camera doesn't show external flash options in the menu? It says external flash not attached.

Is this because the flash is not Sony branded? I see some posts discussing issues with Godox, but also many saying they work great? Any insights are appreciated.

First off, check to see if the Godox transmitter and flash have a firmware update available. If not, you need to contact Godox regarding the issue. They may need to do a firmware update.

External Flash Set. is a relatively new menu item that allows flash control by using buttons & dials on the camera body instead of the flash or transmitter. If I read it right, it seems to be able to save flash settings in the camera and recall them later by pushing a camera button. The saving & recall of flash settings is a whole new level of camera<>flash interaction that Sony never had before.

I think External Flash Set. arrived with the new Bionz XR processor. Some Sony flash models don't support it or require a firmware update (A7CR flash compatibility info). Also, I see the newest Sony flash models no longer support the old optical wireless flash protocol.

External Flash Set. is grayed out on my A7RV when using my Godox V860 III flashes. Yes, the V860 III flash does work great, but I have to be satisfied with pushing buttons on the flash body instead of the camera body.

As Brian Smith suggested, check for firmware updates. I'll suggest cleaning flash & camera contacts and ensuring the flash is fully seated in the hot shoe. If you want, contact Godox and Lightpix Labs and request that they support this function in their models.

The flash sync speed of the A7CR is 1/160 or 1/200 sec (FF or APS-C modes). The FlashQ M20 doesn't say it supports High Speed Sync, so I wouldn't expect it to work at 1/2000 sec shutter speed. Which flash were you using for your sample photo? Was the TT350S in HSS mode?

I used 3 different EXIF readers on your sample and get mixed results with the EXIF flash tag. Two say "On, return light detected", one says "On, return light not detected".
