A200: new (better) image processor or not ????

It' strange this is not in the list of 'Major changes compared to the DiMAGE A2' on Dpreview, while Phil saw image quality of the A2 as the major shortcoming of the A2.

The press release of the A200 says: "With its proprietary new advanced LSI engine and CxProcess™ III image-processing technology, the DiMAGE A200 provides high-speed and stress-free image processing with low power consumption. And, its ability to suppress noise and provide exceptionally accurate color reproduction means that users get high-quality images every time."

but don't expect high signal ratio. The 8mp 2/3¨ Sony sensor is the same as the one on the A2 (and other 8mp bridge camera). So the image quality will be the same as the one on the A2: excellent at low iso. May'be this new CXprocessIII will give better colors, better dynamic range, less moire and jpeg artifacts. Just this would be great.

This processor should drain less power, be a little faster (start up time, writing time). Again, this would be great.

Until images for comparison are available (to which Dcresource may of course already have had access) any claim of such improvements remains an untested assertion on KM's part.

Of course we'd all like it to be true - but merely repeating, or rephrasing, sections of their press release won't make it so!

(Isn't it the difference in editorial standards that keeps us here on dpreview?)

However, if the new system is better, could I please have one retrofitted to my A2?

Isn't it more correct to say that A200 has 'The advanced LSI engine' which is a PROCESSOR, while 'CxProcess™ III' is 'image processing TECHNOLOGY'? I hope I'm making myself clear.

Here comes confusion! Since both A200 and D7 do have the same TECHNOLOGY, that is CxProcess™ III, which is in turn everywhere called a processor, everybody keeps saying that A200 has the same processor as D7!

Just compare Timing numbers, especially cycle times, from A2 and A200 reveiws om http://www.imaging-resource.com . Btw, Dave's review is of much more favorable opinion (as well as http://www.megapixel.net ) about A2 image quality than Phil. Probably because Phil had an early lemon as a tester. Also it was before firmware upgrade.

Just use excellent Comparator feature to see samr studio shots from two different cameras side by side.

Btw, http://www.imaging-resource.com is an excellent review site. Dave's reviews are no less knowledgeable, detailed and objective as Phil's. He also uses standard studio shots under controlled environment as opposed to DCResource where you can't compare directly shots from one camera to another. Lately Dave also started using Imates program for even more objective alas geeky comparative data.

Of course we'd all like it to be true - but merely repeating, or

I am not sure if it is true or not, however while i was investigating which camera to purchase, when i questioned KM about the differences between the A2 & the A200 I was told that the A200 has the same processor engine as the 7D it is a upgrade fromt he A2. There were problems with the A2 and this fixed it.

I understand the imaging processor of a camera not as the central processing unit of it, being responsible only for imaging processing (filtering, shapening, etc) and not for focus, screen, keys, saving to memory cards and so on.

So it problably do imaging processing tasks better, being slower on other camera usual tasks.
